Position Summary
The department of pharmacology and experimental neuroscience at The University of Nebraska Medical Center is seeking a candidate with a PhD in biological sciences, specializing in cellular and molecular mechanisms of aging, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in tauopathy, neuronal metabolism, lysosomal biology, oxidative stress, protein homeostasis, and human neuron-based disease models. Specifically, we are looking for someone with expertise in applying molecular biology, biochemical, genetic, and computational approaches to investigate mechanisms underlying brain aging and neurodegenerative disorders. The ideal candidate will also possess technical skills in using state-of-the-art molecular, cellular, biochemical, and bioinformatics tools to understand complex molecular functions in the nervous system in the context of aging-associated neurodegeneration. Desirable qualifications include a solid understanding of molecular neurobiology, cell biology, metabolism, lysosomal function, stress-response pathways, and age-related disease mechanisms. The role will involve working with both in vitro and in vivo models, including cell culture systems, human neuronal models, and relevant animal or disease models of neurodegeneration. The candidate should be capable of working collaboratively in a team environment, generating research ideas, contributing to interdisciplinary research and teaching activities, and mentoring technicians and students in the lab.
