IT Security Specialist Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it security specialist in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not require a state-issued license specifically for IT security specialists, so the path runs through education and industry certification. Most employers expect at minimum an associate or bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or a related field, plus a recognized certification such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH. Candidates targeting state agency roles should also review Louisiana Division of Administration IT hiring guidelines, which set baseline credential expectations for public-sector positions.
How much do IT security specialists make in Louisiana?
IT security specialists in Louisiana earn a median of about $92,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,660 for the lowest 10% to over $139,190 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it security specialists in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring it security specialists in Louisiana include ENFRA, Entergy, and Tulane University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's energy infrastructure, large hospital networks, and state government IT offices create particularly steady demand for security professionals with compliance and network defense experience.
Which Louisiana cities have the most it security specialist jobs?
New Orleans, Metairie, and Baton Rouge account for the largest share of it security specialist openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge leads because of state government agencies and petrochemical industry headquarters concentrated there, New Orleans draws demand from healthcare systems and financial services, and Shreveport sees consistent openings tied to regional medical centers and defense-adjacent contractors in the northwest corridor.
Are there remote it security specialist jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. IT security work is largely desk-based and systems-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 63% of it security specialist openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader tech industry flexibility. Roles focused on cloud security monitoring, threat intelligence, and compliance review are the most consistently offered as fully remote positions.
How can I get hired as a it security specialist in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is earning CompTIA Security+ and applying to IT help desk or systems administrator roles at large Louisiana employers such as Entergy, Ochsner Health, or Louisiana state agencies, then moving laterally into a security analyst position. Many hospital networks and state IT departments in Louisiana hire entry-level security analysts who hold a relevant degree even without professional experience. Building a home lab, completing a cybersecurity bootcamp, or contributing to a capstone project strengthens a resume when direct work history is thin.
