IT Security Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it security engineer in Louisiana?
Louisiana does not issue a state-specific license for IT security engineers, so the path runs through education and industry certification. Most roles require at least a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or computer science. From there, earning a recognized certification like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP is the practical credential Louisiana employers expect. Defense contractors in the Bossier City area often additionally require candidates to hold or qualify for a federal security clearance before an offer is extended.
How much do IT security engineers make in Louisiana?
IT security engineers in Louisiana earn a median of about $92,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,660 for the lowest 10% to over $139,190 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it security engineers in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring it security engineers in Louisiana include ENFRA, Entergy, and Tulane University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's concentration of energy utilities, large hospital networks, and federal defense contractors creates sustained and varied demand for this role across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most it security engineer jobs?
New Orleans, Metairie, and Baton Rouge account for the largest share of it security engineer openings in Louisiana. New Orleans leads because of its concentration of healthcare systems and financial institutions, Baton Rouge is driven by state government agencies and petrochemical industry operations, and Shreveport-Bossier City draws significant volume from Barksdale Air Force Base and the defense contractors clustered around it.
Are there remote it security engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 69% of it security engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on monitoring systems, analyzing logs, and managing cloud infrastructure that can be done from anywhere. Roles tied to on-site critical infrastructure, such as those supporting energy utilities or government facilities, are the most likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a it security engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is landing a help desk, systems administrator, or network technician role first, then pivoting into security. Louisiana's large hospital networks, such as Ochsner Health and LCMC Health, as well as state government IT departments in Baton Rouge, regularly bring on associate-level security analysts who build toward engineering responsibilities over time. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying signals genuine commitment and gives entry-level candidates a concrete edge over others with similar experience gaps.
