IT Systems Specialist Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it systems specialist in Louisiana?
Most Louisiana employers expect a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field, though an associate degree paired with relevant certifications can qualify candidates for entry roles. Louisiana does not issue a state-specific license for IT systems specialists, so industry credentials carry the most weight. CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ are the most commonly requested, and completing them before applying strengthens a candidate's profile at state agencies, healthcare systems, and industrial employers alike.
Which companies hire it systems specialists in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring it systems specialists in Louisiana include ENFRA, Entergy, and LCMC Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's largest concentrations of openings sit within state government agencies, large healthcare networks, and the oil-and-gas services sector, all of which maintain ongoing IT infrastructure needs across multiple sites.
Which Louisiana cities have the most it systems specialist jobs?
New Orleans, Metairie, and Baton Rouge lead Louisiana for it systems specialist openings. Baton Rouge anchors the market through state government IT departments and the large university and healthcare systems based there, while New Orleans draws demand from healthcare networks, hospitality technology, and port-related logistics operations, and Shreveport reflects hiring tied to healthcare, regional government, and energy services in the northern part of the state.
Are there remote it systems specialist jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because IT systems specialists are frequently needed on-site to support hardware, servers, and physical infrastructure. About 63% of it systems specialist openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which tends to reflect positions focused on monitoring, administration, and software-side support rather than hands-on equipment work.
How can I get hired as a it systems specialist in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a help-desk or desktop support technician role, which Louisiana state agencies, Ochsner Health, and large industrial services firms regularly post as junior positions requiring minimal prior experience. Earning CompTIA A+ before applying gives a clear advantage. Louisiana community colleges and LCTCS institutions offer IT programs with employer partnerships, and lateral moves from roles like network technician, IT support analyst, or systems administrator trainee are common stepping stones into a full specialist position.
