J-1 Visa National Account Manager Jobs
National Account Manager roles in the United States are available to qualified exchange visitors through the J-1 Trainee or Specialist program category, depending on your experience level. Securing sponsorship requires a designated sponsor organization to issue your DS-2019, so identifying host employers familiar with the J-1 structure is the critical first step.

Document your field-specific experience thoroughly
Trainee and Specialist categories require a detailed training plan showing how your U.S. placement builds on your existing expertise in account management, client strategy, or B2B sales. Gaps between your background and the proposed role raise flags during sponsor review.
Confirm the J-1 category before applying
If you're still completing a degree, the Intern category applies. Post-graduation professionals with relevant work history qualify under Trainee. Misidentifying your category wastes time with employers whose designated sponsor only administers one program type.
Target employers with existing host relationships
Use Migrate Mate to filter National Account Manager roles by employers already familiar with J-1 hosting requirements, so you're not educating a recruiter on the DS-2019 process mid-interview.
Ask about the 2-year home residency requirement early
Some J-1 participants are subject to a 2-year home-country residency requirement before changing to certain other visa statuses. This affects your long-term U.S. career path, so clarify your eligibility with your designated sponsor before accepting an offer.
Align your training plan with DOL wage standards
Your designated sponsor and host employer co-sign the training plan, and compensation must reflect the role's prevailing wage. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify that your offered package meets the standard for National Account Manager positions in the host employer's metropolitan area.
Prepare for the DS-7002 training plan negotiation
The DS-7002 form specifies your learning objectives, supervision structure, and program phases. Host employers unfamiliar with national account functions may draft generic plans that CIEE, Cultural Vistas, or other designated sponsors will push back on, so draft specific milestones yourself before the employer submits.

Find National Account Manager JobsNational Account Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a National Account Manager role?
Most National Account Manager placements fall under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you have a degree plus at least one year of relevant professional experience, or at least five years of work experience in your field. Specialist is reserved for experts with a higher level of documented achievement in a specific discipline. If you're a current student seeking structured exposure to U.S. account management practices, the Intern category may apply instead.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this role, the employer or someone else?
A U.S. Department of State-designated sponsor organization issues your DS-2019 and serves as the official visa sponsor. The hiring employer acts as your host, not your visa sponsor. Organizations such as CIEE, Cultural Vistas, and AIPT administer J-1 programs for business and management roles. Your host employer must work with one of these designated sponsors and co-sign your DS-7002 training plan before the DS-2019 is issued.
How do I find National Account Manager roles where the employer already understands J-1 hosting?
Migrate Mate lets you search for National Account Manager positions at U.S. employers who are already familiar with exchange visitor hosting requirements. Targeting employers with prior J-1 hosting experience significantly shortens the onboarding process because you're not starting from scratch explaining the DS-2019, training plan obligations, or SEVIS reporting requirements to a recruiter or HR team.
Can a National Account Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for J-1 purposes?
The J-1 Trainee and Specialist categories don't use the specialty occupation standard that applies to H-1B visas. Instead, the role must offer genuine training or knowledge transfer that you can't access in your home country. Your training plan must demonstrate a clear educational or professional development objective tied to account strategy, client relationship management, or sales leadership, not just routine job duties.
Does the 2-year home residency requirement affect National Account Manager J-1 participants?
It can. The 2-year home-country physical presence requirement applies to some J-1 participants based on government funding, skills lists, and exchange agreements between the U.S. and your home country. If it applies, you must return home for two years before changing to H-1B, L-1, or lawful permanent resident status. Your designated sponsor can confirm whether the requirement attaches to your specific program before you accept an offer.
