How do you become a lab associate in Hawaii?
Becoming a lab associate in Hawaii typically starts with an associate or bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or a related biological field. Clinical laboratory personnel performing moderate or high-complexity testing must hold a Hawaii clinical laboratory license issued by the Hawaii Department of Health's Laboratory Licensure Program. Hawaii's hospital systems and independent reference laboratories are the most consistent sources of lab associate openings across the state.
Which Hawaii cities have the most lab associate jobs?

Honolulu drives the largest share given its concentration of major hospital systems and reference labs, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect the medical infrastructure serving Hawaii Island's growing population and regional health centers.

Yes, but they're rare. Most lab associate work is hands-on and requires a physical laboratory environment, making full remote positions uncommon. About 0% of lab associate openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be in data review, quality assurance coordination, or lab information systems support rather than bench work.
How can I get hired as a lab associate in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for lab aide, specimen processor, or phlebotomist roles at Hawaii Pacific Health or Diagnostic Laboratory Services, both of which regularly bring in candidates who move into associate positions after demonstrating reliability. Hawaii Community College and the University of Hawaii system offer clinical laboratory technician programs with practicum placements at local facilities. Obtaining a phlebotomy certificate and applying to process or courier roles inside a hospital lab gives you direct exposure to lab workflows, which Hawaii hiring managers consistently value over unrelated work history.
