Laboratory Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory in Hawaii?
To work as a clinical laboratory scientist in Hawaii, you must obtain a license through the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Professional and Vocational Licensing division. Candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or a related field, plus passing scores on a recognized national examination such as the ASCP Board of Certification exam. Environmental or research laboratory roles may require different credentials depending on the employer and setting.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Hawaii?
Hawaii laboratory roles are posted by The Queen's Medical Center, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLP, and Diagnostic Laboratory Services and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's integrated health systems and federally supported research institutions account for the largest share of consistent openings across the islands.
Which Hawaii cities have the most laboratory jobs?
Honolulu, Kailua-Kona, and Hilo have the most laboratory openings in Hawaii. Honolulu leads because it is home to the state's largest hospital campuses, reference laboratories, and research facilities, while Hilo and Kailua-Kona reflect demand generated by Hawaii Island's growing network of community hospitals and outpatient clinics affiliated with major health systems.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they are rare. Most laboratory work requires hands-on specimen handling, instrument operation, or on-site testing that cannot be performed remotely. About 0% of laboratory openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in roles like laboratory data analysis, quality assurance review, or laboratory information system support rather than bench science.
How can I get hired as a laboratory in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a laboratory assistant or specimen processor role at a Hawaii hospital or reference lab, where formal clinical laboratory science experience is not required. Queen's Health System and Hawaii Pacific Health periodically hire new graduates and career changers into these positions. Earning a phlebotomy certification through a Hawaii community college program strengthens your application, and many candidates move into full technologist roles after gaining on-the-job hours and completing their licensure requirements.
Where can I find and apply to laboratory jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to laboratory jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the islands. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
