Laboratory Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory professional in Florida?
Florida requires clinical laboratory personnel to hold a license issued by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Clinical Laboratory Services. Candidates typically complete a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related discipline, finish an accredited clinical training program, and pass a national exam such as the ASCP Board of Certification exam. Florida then issues a state license based on those credentials, which must be renewed on a set cycle.
Which companies hire laboratory professionals in Florida?
Employers hiring laboratorys in Florida right now include BayCare Health System, Labcorp, and UF Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's dense network of hospital systems, independent reference labs, and pharmaceutical manufacturers creates consistent demand across the state year-round.
Which Florida cities have the most laboratory jobs?
Tampa, Miami, and Jacksonville have the highest concentration of laboratory openings in Florida. This distribution reflects the presence of large hospital networks, cancer research institutions, and pharmaceutical operations in those metros, and smaller or suburban markets typically draw activity from the same anchor employers extending into satellite campuses and outpatient facilities nearby.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Most laboratory work requires physical presence to handle specimens, operate instruments, and maintain chain of custody. About 2% of laboratory openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be concentrated in roles like laboratory informatics, data analysis, regulatory affairs, or medical science liaison work rather than bench science.
How can I get hired as a laboratory professional in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a laboratory assistant or phlebotomy technician role while completing a certificate program approved by the Florida Department of Health. Large Florida systems like AdventHealth and HCA Florida Healthcare regularly hire new graduates into structured clinical training tracks. Pursuing ASCP phlebotomy or clinical laboratory technician certification before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over those with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to laboratory jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to laboratory jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search for roles that fit your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that match.
