Laboratory Jobs in Tampa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a laboratory job in Tampa?
Focus your search on Tampa's medical and research clusters: the USF Health campus in New Tampa, Moffitt Cancer Center in the University area, and the network of hospital systems along Bruce B. Downs. Clinical labs, contract research organizations, and environmental testing firms are the most active local hirers. Certifications such as ASCP or AMT give candidates a clear edge in Tampa's competitive clinical market, and hands-on externship experience at a Tampa-area facility matters more than most other credentials.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Tampa?
Companies currently hiring laboratorys in Tampa include Labcorp, Quest Diagnostics, and Tampa General Hospital, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tampa's employer mix skews heavily toward hospital-affiliated labs, specialty diagnostics providers, and biotech operations tied to the USF and Moffitt research ecosystems.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Tampa?
Yes, though with an important caveat: most laboratory roles require hands-on bench work and are inherently on-site, so remote opportunities are limited compared to desk-based fields. About 17% of laboratory openings tied to Tampa are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in lab informatics, data analysis, regulatory affairs, and clinical documentation rather than specimen handling.
How can I get a laboratory job in Tampa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Tampa is a phlebotomy or lab assistant role at one of the city's large hospital systems or outpatient collection sites, where training is often provided on the job. Community college programs at Hillsborough Community College feed directly into local employer pipelines. Entry-level candidates who pursue ASCP phlebotomy certification and complete a Tampa-area clinical externship are consistently prioritized over applicants with no local facility exposure.
