Maintenance Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a maintenance job in Richmond?
The strongest path into Richmond's maintenance market runs through its large apartment communities in the Fan and Carytown neighborhoods, the healthcare campuses along North Side, and the growing industrial corridor near Fulton. Property management companies and hospital systems are the most consistent local hirers. Candidates with HVAC, plumbing, or electrical troubleshooting skills and a valid driver's license move to the front of the line in this market.
Which companies hire maintenances in Richmond?
Employers hiring maintenances in Richmond right now include HandCraft Services, Condair, and JennMar, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Richmond's mix of multi-family housing operators, healthcare institutions, and light manufacturers keeps demand for maintenance technicians steady throughout the year.
Are there remote maintenance jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though hands-on maintenance work is predominantly on-site by nature, making fully remote roles rare in this field. About 0% of maintenance openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The portions most suited to remote or hybrid arrangements tend to be maintenance coordination, scheduling, and facilities management oversight roles rather than direct technical work.
How can I get a maintenance job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Richmond is a porter, groundskeeper, or maintenance helper role with one of the city's many multi-family residential operators in neighborhoods like Church Hill or Henrico County. These positions provide on-the-job exposure to HVAC, plumbing, and electrical basics under licensed technicians. Completing a trade certificate through Reynolds Community College strengthens your candidacy significantly and is a recognized credential among Richmond employers.
