Installation Technician Jobs in Virginia

MariCore is a small Norfolk company that tests and installs marine RF and waveguide systems for Navy ships. We're a small crew, and need a dependable full-time field tech who shows up, works carefully, and doesn't mind a long shipyard day.

You don't need to know our work already as you’ll work with myself, the owner, directly during training. What I can't teach is doing the work carefully, and being able to do problem solving in the difficult environment of a shipyard.

Most weeks you'll split time between job sites (aboard ships and at shipyards) and our shop. A handful of times a year you'll travel, usually 1-2 weeks at a time. We book and pay for your hotel directly, cover meals at the federal per diem rate, and pay you for travel time.

What you'll do

• Work with our installation crew aboard Navy ships installing and testing waveguide
• Set up and running test equipment
• Keep clean, accurate records of each job
• Load, ship, and take care of our gear
• Inspect and package parts in the shop between jobs
• Travel to job sites about 10-20% of the time (25-45 days a year, mostly 1-2 week trips by air)

Pay and benefits

• $26-36/hr depending on experience, plus overtime at 1.5x over 40 hours
• Paid travel time; hotel booked and paid by us; meals at the federal per diem rate

Requirements

• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
• High school diploma or GED
• U.S. citizen able to pass a background check for base and shipyard access (no clearance needed)
• Comfortable on ships, in tight spaces, and on ladders, and able to lift equipment cases
• Able to travel, including overnight trips
• Writes clearly. Job reports matter here.

Nice to have

• Shipyard experience
• Navy or electronics tech background (ET, FC, IC, EM or similar), or a trade-school background
• A track record of staying with an employer. We want someone who plans to be here a while.

Pay: $26.00 - $36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
