Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Energy Storage
Position Summary:
As an early member of a new engineering technician team, you will play a key role in building, setting up, and running equipment to support the development of manufacturing lines at Redwood Materials. You'll work hands-on across mechanical and electrical tools to help validate product performance and reliability. You will support all phases of the product development lifecycle from early design validation to long-term production line improvements by assembling equipment, operating equipment safely, capturing data, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. This role requires a proactive, can-do attitude with careful attention to detail and a strong safety mindset.
Hours:
Full-time, Monday–Friday + Flexibility to support different shifts as the operation scales is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build, set up, and execute equipment fabrication on the manufacturing lines
- Partner with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality, operations) to support FMEAs and test plan execution
- Assemble, install, and maintain test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies
- Operate equipment, follow procedures, and ensure safe handling of high-voltage systems and hardware
- Collect, organize, and document test data, observations, and results clearly and consistently
- Perform basic failure triage and support failure analysis through teardown, inspections, and root-cause investigations
- Troubleshoot equipment setups and hardware issues; escalate and collaborate to resolve blockers quickly
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) line operations by assisting with product assembly, build readiness, and day-to-day troubleshooting. Create, update, and maintain build documentation, including work instructions, assembly procedures, and change logs to ensure accurate and repeatable processes
- Support with the management of lab inventory, organization, and power infrastructure. Assembly and validation of high-voltage harnesses and electrical sub-systems, including wiring, terminations, and integration while ensuring full compliance with electrical safety requirements and site policies
Desired Qualifications:
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related fields
- 3+ years of experience in a lab, manufacturing, or test environment (technician, engineering tech, or similar role)
- Experience working with or around high-voltage systems (400–2000VDC and 480–800VAC) and strong safety discipline (LOTO, PPE, safe work practices)
- Strong hands-on skills with mechanical assembly, wiring, sensors, instrumentation, and lab equipment
- Comfortable following procedures, maintaining detailed documentation, and producing clear test summaries
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders across levels
- A get-it-done attitude—willing to jump in, own tasks end-to-end, and do what's needed to support the team
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting (up to 25 lbs), typing, and performing repetitive motions
- Manual dexterity to work with small components under a microscope for extended periods, including precision soldering and handling heavy copper assemblies
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time
- Occasional travel required and flexibility to work weekends, nights, or on call as needed
