INTRODUCTION
Cook Systems has an immediate need for a Contractor - Market Research Marketing Insights Center of Excellence (MICOE) strategically guides and empowers enterprise stakeholders to build donor intimacy and centricity to drive business growth, brand affinity and relevance. As an integral part of the MICOE, this individual supporting Marketing Insights is responsible for leading and managing the overall research design, data collection, analysis, and reporting of results and insights for a portfolio of strategic primary research studies through all relevant phases, and in alignment with the organization’s Vision and Plan.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Uses a high degree of critical thinking, collaboration and project management to autonomously oversee the strategic development and execution of multiple research initiatives that inform brand, marketing, communication and fundraising strategies.
- Requires experience and understanding of sophisticated, customized research methodologies (such as discrete choice, longitudinal tracking, and segmentation techniques) and applied research project management skills including research design (qualitative and quantitative), questionnaire and discussion guide construction, presentation and report development, post-research socialization, and project archiving, as well as the ability to relate, and work with, both client and vendor-side management.
- Leads projects that are highly visible among Executive and Senior Leadership, as well as the Board.
- Communicates key insights to the Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, SVP, and Director, and proactively makes strategic recommendations to Marketing and Development leadership based on insights.
- Responsible for the development, implementation and management of brand health initiatives, segmentation research, creative and message testing.
- Works with a high degree of autonomy and agility on enterprise-wide primary research projects that provide guidance to growth strategists and/or Development teams in the conception and design of marketing campaigns.
- Possesses strong analytical skills and an understanding of survey design, sampling methodology, panel recruitment and weighting techniques.
- Serves as an in-house research expert, collaborating and negotiating with key individuals in all departments to develop and execute cohesive research approaches that meet the needs of all teams.
- Requires an entrepreneurial spirit for the ability to “think outside the box,” “connect the dots” and integrate research insights across multiple sources to develop richer, most holistic recommendations.
- Takes on an enterprise viewpoint of research value streams and works across the organization to recommend future research needs in a roadmap view.
- Also requires the ability to organize large amounts of information, understand the story that the data is telling, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once with great attention to detail and with minimal supervision.
- Requires a clear understanding of, and experience in, a range of research methodologies, including concept, copy and message testing; segmentation research, brand equity analytics, conjoint, choice-base conjoint and max diff, chip allocation, ethnography, neuro research, online discussion boards, web usability, and both motivational and emotion-based research testing.
- SPSS or other statistical software experience is mandatory, and familiarity with the implementation of AI/machine learning to explore and validate primary research efforts is a plus.
- Works cross-functionally and collaborates with enterprise-wide research constituents to develop integrated research approaches that maximize research opportunities and deliver against strategic plans.
- Must be solution-oriented with a proven ability to problem solve and develop innovative solutions.
- Stays abreast of upcoming sociocultural trends and macroeconomic impacts to business, in order to inform long-term industry, research and business strategies.
- Leads and manages the oversight of best practices for research methodology, field work and analysis for Marketing Research.
- Actively participates in the Enterprise Research Council (ERC) and is a working member and contributor of research leadership and expertise to the goals of the council.
- Possesses advanced storytelling and presentation skills - demonstrated track record translating business data and complex ideas into a clear, easy to interpret and meaningful visual story presentation.
- Communicates research findings, both verbal and in writing, in an easily understood manner using various illustrative techniques including charts, tables, infographics, etc.
- Presents data in a storytelling format and in an engaging manner that ensures a solid understanding of research findings and recommendations.
- Tailors and targets presentation content and style to address known and anticipated audience needs.
- Heavy creation of PowerPoint decks and working in both SPSS (or another statistical software), and Excel.
- Responsible for developing, managing and maintaining strong internal client relationships, as well as long-term external vendor and agency partnerships.
- Requires strong skills in leadership, communication, persuasion, decision-making, and insights identification.
- Will also assist in the creation and reconciliation of the marketing research budget, including management of specific research and development line items, submission of vendor invoices on a timely basis, and the reconciliation of overall project costs.
- Mentors and coaches teammates both officially and unofficially.
- Can be asked to lead a significant project including peer teammates directly where feedback is necessary.
- May directly have one or more direct reports for career mapping and succession planning.
REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a master’s degree in business administration, Market Research, Statistics, Marketing, Data Science or related field or the equivalent in work experience of at least 12 years in an insights function.
- Requires a deep understanding of market research methodologies and techniques and must possess strong communication skills in order to socialize findings to Executive and Senior Leadership Teams, as well as other internal stakeholders.
- Responsible for leading strategic research initiatives that entail the use of leading-edge, complex and highly sophisticated data mining and statistical analysis techniques, while utilizing findings to build data-driven recommendations that guide the organization’s high-visibility marketing and fundraising efforts, such as audience-led strategies, brand initiatives, program development, and marketing communication decisions.
