Material Control Clerk Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a material control clerk in Massachusetts?
Most material control clerk positions in Massachusetts require a high school diploma or equivalent and direct experience with inventory systems in a manufacturing or distribution setting. Massachusetts does not issue a state license for this role, but employers in defense and biotech strongly prefer candidates familiar with ERP platforms and government property standards. Earning a certification through APICS, such as the Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution credential, improves competitiveness with major Massachusetts manufacturers.
Which companies hire material control clerks in Massachusetts?
Companies currently hiring material control clerks in Massachusetts include Raytheon, FedEx, and Qnity, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of defense contractors and medical device manufacturers along the Route 128 corridor creates consistent year-round demand for material control staff.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most material control clerk jobs?
The cities with the most material control clerk openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Wilmington, and Marlborough. The distribution reflects the density of defense and aerospace contractors clustered around Greater Boston and the Route 128 technology belt, while Worcester draws openings from its established manufacturing base and medical device suppliers serving the central Massachusetts market.
Are there remote material control clerk jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Material control clerks typically work on-site to physically receive, count, and issue inventory, so most roles require a physical presence in a warehouse or production facility. About 50% of material control clerk openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions generally cover administrative tasks such as data entry, purchase order processing, or ERP reporting that can be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a material control clerk in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a warehouse associate or shipping and receiving role at a Massachusetts manufacturer or defense contractor, where you gain hands-on inventory experience before moving into a dedicated material control position. Large employers such as Raytheon Technologies and General Dynamics regularly hire entry-level production support staff who rotate into material control functions. Completing an APICS fundamentals course or earning familiarity with SAP through a community college program at institutions like Quinsigamond Community College strengthens a candidate's application significantly.
