CMAs hold a key role within Ambulatory Services clinics. CMAs manage intake (including medication review), triage, and rooming of patients. They also carry out medical treatments as ordered by the provider for patients within the clinic. The CMAs also support telemedicine encounters. Lastly, they provide support to RN and provider staff during clinical emergencies. If budgeted CMA positions remain unfilled, the clinic will run short-staffed, which can compromise the patient experience, pose safety risks, and contribute to delays for patients and providers.

Medical Assistant Jobs in Baltimore: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical assistant job in Baltimore?
Focus your search on Baltimore's large academic medical centers, federally qualified health centers in neighborhoods like Sandtown-Winchester and Cherry Hill, and the dense cluster of specialty clinics along the Route 40 corridor. Candidates who hold a CMA or RMA certification and have hands-on phlebotomy or EHR experience move faster through hiring. Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish, give applicants a real edge with Baltimore's community health employers.
Which companies hire medical assistants in Baltimore?
Companies currently hiring medical assistants in Baltimore include MedStar Health, Mercy Health Services (MD), and Johns Hopkins Health System, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's employer mix is heavily anchored by large hospital-affiliated outpatient networks, federally qualified health centers, and independent specialty practices that keep steady year-round hiring pipelines.
Are there remote medical assistant jobs in Baltimore?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of the role, since most medical assistant work requires in-person patient interaction. About 14% of medical assistant openings tied to Baltimore are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, covering tasks such as prior authorizations, patient outreach calls, and chronic care management documentation. Telehealth-adjacent roles at Baltimore's health system affiliates are the most common source of these hybrid positions.
How can I get a medical assistant job in Baltimore with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Baltimore is through community health centers and urgent care chains, which regularly hire candidates who have completed an accredited MA program but lack clinical work history. Baltimore-area community colleges and workforce development programs sometimes have direct hiring partnerships with local clinics. Applying for patient services representative or medical receptionist roles at a health system first is a common way to build a foot in the door before transitioning to a clinical assistant position.
Which industries hire the most medical assistants in Baltimore?
The sectors hiring the most medical assistants in Baltimore are Education, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Transportation & Logistics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Baltimore's concentration of academic medical institutions, community health infrastructure, and specialty care growth in areas like oncology and cardiology drives consistently high demand across those sectors.
