Entry Level Medical Writer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level medical writer job?
Employers hiring entry level medical writers look for a science or health-related degree, clear writing samples, and familiarity with regulatory or clinical document formats. A portfolio of writing samples, even from coursework, internships, or volunteer work, gives you a strong edge at this stage. Tailor each application to show you understand the document type the employer produces, whether that is clinical study reports, patient education materials, or regulatory submissions.
Which companies hire entry level medical writers?
Companies hiring entry level medical writers right now include Collabera, BioMarin Pharmaceutical, and Medpace, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad mix of employers, including pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations, medical communications agencies, and healthcare technology firms that onboard junior writers with training support.
Are there remote entry level medical writer jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are widely available at this level. About 20% of entry level medical writer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the document-heavy, independent nature of medical writing work. Yes, many of these openings are new grad roles that welcome recent graduates, junior candidates, and career changers. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and accepts internship work, academic writing projects, or a writing portfolio in place of full-time history. Look for postings that list a bachelor's degree as the primary requirement and do not require prior industry employment.
