ML Software Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ml software engineer in Texas?
ML software engineer roles in Texas require no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most hiring managers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field, with a master's preferred at larger Texas employers in aerospace, defense, and finance. Building a portfolio of end-to-end ML projects, contributing to open-source repositories, and completing recognized certifications in cloud ML platforms strengthens candidacy significantly.
How much do ML software engineers make in Texas?
ML software engineers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ml software engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring ml software engineers in Texas right now include Amazon Web Services, JPMorganChase, and University of Texas at Austin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, major banks, and enterprise technology companies means demand is distributed across industries rather than limited to a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most ml software engineer jobs?
Austin, Plano, and Spring have the most ml software engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense concentration of technology companies and semiconductor firms drives the largest share, while Dallas's major financial institutions and corporate headquarters and Houston's energy-sector analytics and aerospace employers account for significant hiring activity across those metros.
Are there remote ml software engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of ml software engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally the work fits distributed environments. Model development, experimentation, and code review are especially well suited to remote arrangements, while roles requiring collaboration with on-site hardware or production infrastructure more often require some in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a ml software engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate ML engineer role reached through a strong project portfolio and a relevant degree or certification. Texas employers such as Dell Technologies and JPMorgan Chase run early-career and new-graduate programs that recruit directly from Texas universities. Lateral moves from data analyst, software developer, or data scientist roles are common.
