Network Systems Administrator Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network systems administrator in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a network systems administrator, so the path runs through education and vendor certifications. Most Texas employers expect at least an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or computer science alongside certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft certifications. Defense-sector positions in San Antonio and the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor frequently require a Department of Defense security clearance as an additional condition of employment.
How much do network systems administrators make in Texas?
Network systems administrators in Texas earn a median of about $101,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,650 for the lowest 10% to over $155,430 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network systems administrators in Texas?
Employers hiring network systems administrators in Texas right now include Amazon, LTIMindtree, and Meta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, large financial institutions, and major technology companies makes it one of the more active states for ongoing network infrastructure hiring.
Which Texas cities have the most network systems administrator jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston account for the most network systems administrator openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads due to its density of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and technology companies, while Houston's energy sector and medical center drive sustained demand, and Austin's fast-growing tech industry has added significantly to the overall volume of openings.
Are there remote network systems administrator jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely software-focused roles because network administration regularly involves on-site hardware configuration, data center access, and physical troubleshooting. About 9% of network systems administrator openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work include monitoring, documentation, and cloud-based network management tasks.
How can I get hired as a network systems administrator in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from an IT helpdesk or desktop support role into network administration, as both positions exist inside the same IT departments at large Texas employers like Texas Health Resources, H-E-B, and state agencies including the Texas Department of Information Resources. Earning CompTIA Network+ or a Cisco CCNA before applying gives candidates a measurable edge. Community colleges across Texas, including those in the Dallas and Houston metro areas, offer accelerated IT infrastructure programs that pair well with entry-level network technician postings.
