Most Texas employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information technology, paired with a recognized certification such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH. Candidates who target defense contractors or financial institutions in Texas often pursue CMMC or CISM credentials to meet the compliance requirements those sectors demand.
How much do IT security specialists make in Texas?
IT security specialists in Texas earn a median of about $129,890 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,990 for the lowest 10% to over $178,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
