Registered Nurse (RN) – Inpatient Float Pool
Kenosha, WI United States
Where You Will Work:
The AMCK Inpatient Float Pool (FP) is a versatile unit where team members can be assigned to any inpatient unit or overflow space within AMCK, though they typically do not care for ICU-status or pediatric patients unless specifically cross-trained. Bed counts and patient volumes vary depending on the assignment, with medical-surgical (MS) units generally ranging from 12–16 beds and overflow areas accommodating up to 8 patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 4–5:1 for MS patients and 2–3:1 for ICU-level or pediatric patients, while nursing assistant ratios range from 6:1 to 8:1 depending on the unit and shift. Overflow areas, often located in the ED or SDS, serve as temporary patient care spaces and may close mid-shift as patients are transferred to inpatient rooms. These rooms are smaller, lack private bathrooms or showers, and require patients to use communal restrooms. Supplies are stocked on carts tailored to MS needs. All FP RNs and CNAs must have BLS certification within 30 days of starting; RNs also need ACLS and NIHSS before completing orientation, and EKG competency within three months. PALS, ultrasound IV competency, and certifications are considered beneficial but can be obtained post-hire. The average patient stay is 2–3 days outside of ICU settings. Float Pool team members are seen as ambassadors of best practices and new initiatives, benefiting from a wide range of experience and avoiding unit-specific conflicts. Ideal candidates are flexible, confident in working across various units, and comfortable with mid-shift reassignments. New graduate RNs are welcome.
