Operational Technology Ot Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operational technology ot in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering, or a closely related field, combined with hands-on exposure to control systems or industrial networks. Texas does not have a single state-issued license specific to operational technology roles, but employers routinely expect industry credentials such as GICSP or vendor-specific certifications from Siemens, Rockwell, or Schneider Electric. Internships or co-op programs at Texas refineries, utilities, or defense contractors provide the applied experience that opens full-time doors.
Which companies hire operational technology ots in Texas?
Employers hiring operational technology ots in Texas right now include McDonald's, OTC Industrial Technologies, and Becton, Dickinson and, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, petrochemical, and defense industries means demand is consistent across both private sector operators and large government contractors throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most operational technology ot jobs?
Houston, El Paso, and Fort Worth lead Texas for operational technology ot openings. Houston dominates because of its dense concentration of refineries, petrochemical plants, and energy infrastructure operators, while Dallas draws demand from defense contractors and large corporate technology campuses, and San Antonio's military installations and growing cybersecurity sector account for a significant share of the ICS security-focused postings.
Are there remote operational technology ot jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're limited. Operational technology work is largely hands-on and site-specific, requiring physical access to industrial equipment, control panels, and restricted facilities, which makes fully remote arrangements uncommon. About 0% of operational technology ot openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in OT cybersecurity advisory, architecture review, and compliance roles that can be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a operational technology ot in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an associate or technician-level role in industrial maintenance, IT networking, or electrical systems at a Texas refinery, utility, or manufacturing facility, then transitioning into OT-specific work from the inside. Large Texas energy operators and defense contractors like those in the Houston Ship Channel corridor and the San Antonio defense complex run apprenticeship-style programs and rotational associate tracks for recent graduates. Earning a GICSP certification or completing vendor training from Rockwell or Siemens signals readiness even without direct OT experience.
