Driver Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a driver in Texas?
To become a commercial driver in Texas, you obtain a Commercial Driver License through the Texas Department of Public Safety by passing a written knowledge exam and a skills test covering pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving. The class you need depends on the vehicle: Class A covers combination vehicles, Class B covers straight trucks and buses, and endorsements such as Hazmat or Tanker are added separately. No college degree is required, but completing a state-approved CDL training program strengthens your application.
Which companies hire drivers in Texas?
Employers hiring drivers in Texas right now include AutoZone, Lithia & Driveway, and Republic Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size, extensive highway network, and concentration of energy, retail distribution, and e-commerce fulfillment operations make it one of the most active driver hiring markets in the country.
Which Texas cities have the most driver jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas have the most driver openings in Texas right now. Houston leads because of its massive port operations, petrochemical plants, and regional distribution hubs, Dallas-Fort Worth draws high volume from its inland freight and e-commerce logistics infrastructure, and San Antonio supports steady demand through its military supply chains and growing retail distribution footprint.
Are there remote driver jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 2% of driver openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects how hands-on and location-dependent most driving work is by nature. The exceptions tend to be dispatch coordination, fleet management, or driver training roles that carry the "driver" title but are office-based or can be handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a driver in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a paid CDL training program offered directly by large Texas carriers such as Schneider National or Swift Transportation, which hire trainees with no prior experience and provide on-the-job training toward a Class A license. H-E-B and Amazon Logistics also hire local delivery drivers at the Class C level, where the barrier to entry is lower. Starting in a warehouse selector or delivery helper role with a Texas distribution center is a common lateral move that leads to a driver seat within months.
Where can I find and apply to driver jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to driver jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring right now. Search for roles by city or job type, find the ones that fit your license class and experience, and apply directly to each one.
