Project Management Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management specialist in Texas?
Most project management specialist roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related field, combined with demonstrated project coordination experience. Texas does not issue a state license for this role, but employers consistently prioritize the Project Management Professional certification from PMI or the entry-level CAPM credential. Building experience through coordinator or analyst roles in energy, healthcare, or construction, which are the dominant Texas sectors, strengthens a candidate's profile significantly.
How much do project management specialists make in Texas?
Project management specialists in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring project management specialists in Texas right now include Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Houston Methodist, and Texas A&M University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, defense, and technology headquarters means many of these organizations maintain large, ongoing project management teams rather than hiring only for individual project cycles.
Which Texas cities have the most project management specialist jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most project management specialist openings in Texas. Houston's oil-and-gas and healthcare infrastructure drive the highest volume, Dallas's corporate headquarters and financial services sector fuel consistent demand, and Austin's technology industry and rapid urban growth have made it a rising market for both IT and infrastructure project specialists.
Are there remote project management specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 19% of project management specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role, such as scheduling, reporting, and stakeholder communication, can be done without being on-site. Roles tied to construction, manufacturing, or physical infrastructure still tend to require in-person presence, while IT and business transformation projects offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a project management specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or project analyst role, which major Texas employers in energy and healthcare regularly post as stepping stones into specialist positions. Large Texas hospital systems and engineering firms often bring on junior coordinators who assist with scheduling and budget tracking before taking on full project ownership. Earning a CAPM certification and building a portfolio from volunteer or academic projects gives candidates without direct experience a concrete credential to present during the hiring process.
Where can I find and apply to project management specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project management specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and target industry, then apply directly to the ones that match.
