How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Paid Social Manager
Target companies with a paid media budget
Employers running active paid social campaigns on Meta, TikTok, or Pinterest have immediate business need for this role. That urgency makes them far more willing to sponsor than companies without established paid media programs.
Quantify your ROAS and CPA results
Hiring managers for paid social roles respond to numbers. Lead with return on ad spend, cost per acquisition, and conversion rate improvements from past campaigns. Concrete performance metrics signal you can own budget, not just execute tasks.
Apply to companies that have sponsored before
Companies with a history of H-1B sponsorship for marketing roles are significantly more likely to sponsor again. Reviewing public LCA filings for past paid social or digital marketing positions helps you prioritize applications strategically.
Clarify your OPT timeline upfront
Many employers misunderstand how much runway OPT provides. Explaining clearly that you have authorization to work now, with time for sponsorship, removes the biggest objection before it derails a promising conversation with a hiring manager.
Build platform certifications before applying
Meta Blueprint and TikTok for Business certifications are free and directly relevant. Having current platform credentials demonstrates technical credibility and reduces employer hesitation around investing in someone who still needs visa sponsorship.
Focus on agencies that work with multiple clients
Paid social agencies sponsor regularly because losing a skilled manager disrupts multiple client accounts at once. The business cost of not sponsoring is higher at agencies than at most in-house teams, making them receptive sponsors.

Do Paid Social Manager jobs typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Paid Social Manager roles can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. The key is how the employer defines the role. Positions framed around strategic budget management and analytics are stronger candidates than those described as general social media coordination, which may not meet the specialty occupation standard.
Does a Paid Social Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
No. Paid Social Manager is not classified under a STEM-designated field, so F-1 students in this role are limited to the standard 12-month OPT period. This makes timing critical. You'll want to begin identifying sponsorship-willing employers early in your OPT authorization and prioritize companies that can initiate an H-1B petition before your work authorization expires.
What types of employers are most likely to sponsor OPT students for Paid Social Manager roles?
Performance marketing agencies, e-commerce companies with in-house media teams, and mid-size DTC brands tend to sponsor most often for this role. These employers run large paid social budgets where losing a skilled manager creates direct revenue risk, making sponsorship a practical business decision. Migrate Mate filters job listings by sponsorship history so you can focus applications on employers who have sponsored before.
How do I explain my OPT status to a hiring manager who seems unfamiliar with it?
Keep it straightforward. Tell them you currently have full work authorization through OPT, that you're eligible to work immediately without any employer action, and that you'll need H-1B sponsorship before your authorization ends. Framing it as a future step rather than a current barrier is more effective. Most employers who hire internationally are familiar with the process once it's explained clearly and calmly.
What experience makes an OPT student competitive for Paid Social Manager roles?
Employers prioritize hands-on experience managing paid campaigns on Meta Ads and TikTok Ads Manager, with demonstrated ownership of budget and performance metrics like ROAS and CPA. Platform certifications from Meta Blueprint strengthen your application. If you've managed campaigns exceeding a meaningful monthly spend threshold or led strategy for multiple accounts simultaneously, lead with those details. Browse current openings on Migrate Mate to see exactly what sponsoring employers are asking for.
