OPT Platform Engineering Manager Jobs
Platform Engineering Manager jobs on OPT require employers who can sponsor H-1B visa, and many are open to it given the role's seniority. Your 12-month standard OPT window (up to 36 months with STEM OPT) is enough time to prove your value and secure long-term sponsorship.

Employees: 190
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to help build and scale our foundational platforms – platforms the healthcare database of the future that no one has yet built. Your team will tackle some of the most complex and high-impact technical challenges in healthcare: how to ingest, store, and serve intrinsically graph-like data at global scale, and how to ensure that entities only see the data dimensions they are authorized to access. You’ll think from first principles, prototype and productionize novel solutions, and develop a truly heterogeneous data lake that stores the world’s multi-modal healthcare data. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about solving hard, unsolved challenges. No prior experience in health tech is required.
What You’ll Do
- Hire and develop world-class engineers to build an exceptional team
- Support engineers’ career growth through clear feedback, mentorship, and leadership development
- Establish and uphold high technical standards through sound processes (e.g., architecture reviews, testing) and strong engineering culture
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to define and execute long-term platform roadmaps
- Drive execution and collaborate across teams to deliver complex, cross-functional initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- Proven track record (4+ years) leading high-performing engineering teams that thrive on innovation.
- 10+ years of total industry experience in software engineering
- Exceptional people leadership skills with experience coaching and developing engineers.
- Deep experience delivering large-scale, foundational infrastructure systems. Strong judgment balancing engineering velocity with long-term technical quality.
- Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across Product, Sales, and Customer Success.
- Demonstrated success defining and driving technical and organizational roadmaps.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
What We Look For
- A builder mindset with a history of scaling teams and systems in fast-paced environments.
- Strong ownership and initiative in ambiguous, evolving contexts.
- Bias for action and data-driven decision making.
- First-principles thinking applied to both technical and organizational challenges.
- Deep care for people development and team health.
- Alignment with NexHealth’s core values and mission.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary Range: $176,000 – $220,000 USD per year (based on experience and location)
- Equity: Competitive stock options
Benefits Include
- Full Medical, Dental, and Vision (up to 100% covered)
- 401K and commuter benefits
- Flexible PTO
- High-impact work that directly improves the healthcare experience for millions

Target companies with H-1B sponsorship history
Established tech companies file H-1B visa petitions for engineering managers regularly. Prioritize employers with a documented history of sponsoring senior engineering roles, not just individual contributors. Past sponsorship behavior is the strongest signal of future sponsorship willingness.
Lead with your OPT timeline, not your visa status
Hiring managers respond better to '24 months of work authorization remaining' than 'I'm on OPT.' Frame your timeline as an asset. Senior hires take months to ramp, and your authorization window covers that fully before H-1B filing is needed.
Quantify your platform engineering impact before interviews
Platform Engineering Managers who sponsor are evaluated on infrastructure scope and team outcomes. Prepare metrics: systems reliability improvements, team size managed, and cost reductions. Concrete numbers make sponsorship decisions easier to justify internally at the employer level.
Engage with the engineering leadership community
Visibility in platform and infrastructure communities accelerates hiring. Contribute to internal developer platforms conversations, speak at meetups, or publish postmortems and architecture write-ups. Managers who are known in the field receive more inbound interest from sponsoring employers.
Clarify STEM OPT eligibility early in your job search
If your degree is in computer science, engineering, or a related STEM field, you may qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. Confirm eligibility with your DSO before applying, as this significantly changes your sponsorship pitch and employer conversations.
Align your job search with the H-1B filing calendar
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October start. If your OPT expires before October, discuss cap-exempt employers or bridge strategies with your DSO. Timing your offer correctly avoids authorization gaps that complicate sponsorship.
Platform Engineering Manager OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Platform Engineering Manager on OPT?
Yes. OPT authorizes F-1 graduates to work in roles directly related to their field of study, and Platform Engineering Manager positions qualify under computer science, information technology, and related STEM degrees. Your offer letter and job description should reflect that connection. If your DSO or employer questions the alignment, a brief written explanation of how the role uses your degree is usually sufficient.
Do companies actually sponsor Platform Engineering Managers for H-1B?
Yes, and at higher rates than individual contributor roles. Engineering managers are harder to replace, which makes sponsorship a practical business decision for most employers. Large tech companies, infrastructure-focused startups, and enterprise software firms sponsor H-1B petitions for this title regularly. Migrate Mate filters for OPT-friendly employers so you can focus your search on companies already open to sponsorship.
How does STEM OPT extension work for this role?
If your degree qualifies as STEM, your DSO can authorize a 24-month extension on top of your initial 12-month OPT, giving you up to 36 months total. Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, and you'll need to submit a formal training plan. For a Platform Engineering Manager role, most STEM degrees in computer science, systems engineering, or information technology qualify automatically.
What happens to my OPT authorization if I change employers during my job search?
OPT is not tied to a specific employer, so you can switch jobs without restarting authorization. However, you must report employer changes to your DSO within 10 days, and any period of unemployment counts against your 90-day unemployment limit. For STEM OPT, your new employer must also be enrolled in E-Verify. Keep your DSO updated each time your employment situation changes.
Is a Platform Engineering Manager role considered a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
In most cases, yes. H-1B specialty occupation status requires a direct relationship between a bachelor's degree in a specific field and the job duties. Platform Engineering Manager roles typically require a computer science, software engineering, or related technical degree, which satisfies that standard. Employers with experienced immigration counsel file these petitions routinely, and approvals for this title are well established at USCIS.
