ABOUT THE JOB
As a valued colleague on our team, you will lead the development, delivery, and ongoing evolution of innovative products that support Fannie Mae’s Single-Family business. You will provide product leadership and expert guidance throughout the product lifecycle—from identifying customer and business needs through implementation, adoption, measurement, and continuous improvement.

Lead AI product strategy and ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of AI-enabled products and capabilities, including solutions already in production. Define the product vision and roadmap, identify customer and business needs, establish requirements, prioritize the backlog, support delivery, and drive post-launch measurement and optimization.
Shape the AI roadmap: Partner with business, technology, data, risk, and program leaders to evaluate opportunities and influence the strategic direction of the AI portfolio. Use customer insights, business value, technical feasibility, risk considerations, and data to recommend priorities and clearly communicate trade-offs.
Translate AI opportunities into product outcomes: Identify practical applications of AI, including generative AI, that improve customer and employee experiences, strengthen business processes, or create measurable operational value. Convert complex technical concepts into clear product strategies, requirements, and recommendations.
Champion responsible AI: Partner with legal, compliance, information security, model risk, privacy, and other governance teams to ensure AI products are developed and operated safely, securely, transparently, and in accordance with Fannie Mae’s AI governance standards.
Drive adoption and change: Support organizational change management by developing communications, training resources, implementation plans, and feedback mechanisms. Serve as a visible champion for AI products and help users understand how to apply them responsibly and effectively.
Develop business cases: Create compelling, data-informed business cases that define expected benefits, costs, risks, success measures, and investment requirements. Use these business cases to support roadmap decisions and funding approvals.
Measure product performance: Define product goals and success metrics, monitor adoption and business outcomes, gather user feedback, and use findings to guide continuous improvement.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship in Product Management Lead
Confirm your degree qualifies for STEM OPT
Product Management Lead roles often qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension if your degree is in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field. Verify your CIP code with your DSO before applying to plan your timeline.
Target companies with established OPT sponsorship history
Focus on employers who have previously sponsored H-1B visas, since those companies already have immigration infrastructure. Mid-size tech firms and enterprise software companies are particularly active sponsors for senior product roles.
Lead with product outcomes, not just process skills
Hiring managers at this level want to see revenue impact, retention improvements, and roadmap wins. Quantify your past results clearly so recruiters see your value before OPT authorization even becomes a conversation.
Disclose your OPT status early in recruiter conversations
Bringing up work authorization on the first recruiter call prevents wasted time for both sides. Frame it confidently: state your current authorization period, your STEM extension eligibility, and your H-1B cap timeline so there are no surprises.
Apply well before your OPT expiration date
Senior product roles have longer hiring cycles, often eight to twelve weeks from first screen to offer. Start your search at least four months before your OPT end date to leave room for interviews, negotiations, and STEM extension processing.
Emphasize cross-functional leadership to differentiate yourself
Product Management Lead roles require coordinating engineering, design, and business stakeholders. Highlighting this experience signals you can hit the ground running, which makes sponsorship feel like a smaller obstacle to hesitant hiring managers.
Product Management Lead OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Product Management Lead on F-1 OPT?
Yes. F-1 OPT authorizes you to work in a role directly related to your degree field. Product Management Lead positions typically qualify under degrees in Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or Engineering. Confirm the role aligns with your degree field with your DSO before accepting an offer to stay compliant.
Does a Product Management Lead role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your underlying degree is in a STEM-designated field such as Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Industrial Engineering, you can apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. The employer also needs to be enrolled in E-Verify, which most companies hiring at this level already are.
How do I find Product Management Lead jobs that are open to OPT students?
Browse Migrate Mate, which is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students. It surfaces roles from employers with active sponsorship histories, so you avoid wasting applications on companies that categorically reject candidates requiring work authorization. Filtering by role seniority and visa-friendliness saves significant time at this stage of your search.
Will employers sponsor H-1B after hiring me on OPT for a Product Management Lead role?
Many do, particularly in technology, finance, and enterprise software. Senior product roles are harder to fill, which gives you more negotiating leverage on sponsorship than entry-level candidates have. Companies with an H-1B sponsorship track record are your best targets. Ask directly about their sponsorship policy before progressing past the first round.
What happens to my Product Management Lead job if my OPT expires before H-1B is approved?
If your employer files your H-1B petition before your OPT expires and you have a timely filed STEM extension or cap-gap protection applies, you can generally continue working without interruption. Cap-gap coverage bridges the period between your OPT expiration and October 1 when H-1B status begins, provided your petition was selected in the lottery and properly filed.
