How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Production Control Clerk
Verify your degree ties to the role
Production Control Clerk positions qualify for STEM OPT only if your degree is in supply chain management, industrial engineering, or operations research. Confirm the connection before applying so your DSO can authorize the extension without delays.
Target manufacturing and logistics employers
Large manufacturers, aerospace contractors, and third-party logistics firms hire Production Control Clerks regularly and have established OPT onboarding processes. Smaller shops may not, so prioritize employers with existing international student hiring experience.
Emphasize ERP and inventory system experience
Familiarity with SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise systems makes you a stronger candidate. Employers in production control environments value technical proficiency, and it signals you can contribute immediately without a long ramp-up period.
Apply early relative to your OPT start date
Production control roles often require background checks and system access provisioning before day one. Starting your job search at least three months before your OPT authorization begins gives you enough runway to clear onboarding requirements.
Clarify your work authorization upfront
When reaching out to hiring managers, briefly explain your OPT status and authorization period. Many employers in manufacturing are unfamiliar with OPT but willing to hire once they understand there is no petition filing required from them during initial OPT.
Use Migrate Mate to filter OPT-friendly roles
Searching for Production Control Clerk positions on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have already indicated openness to OPT candidates, saving you time screening out companies that won't engage with international students on work authorization.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Production Control Clerk on OPT?
Yes, as long as your work is directly related to your field of study. If your degree is in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations management, or a related field, a Production Control Clerk role typically qualifies. Your DSO at your university must authorize your OPT before you begin working, and the job must align with your degree field.
Does a Production Control Clerk job qualify for STEM OPT extension?
It can, but qualification depends on two things: your degree must be on the STEM Designated Degree Program List, and your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Degrees in industrial engineering, supply chain management, and operations research typically qualify. Your employer also needs to sign a formal training plan with your school before USCIS approves the 24-month extension.
What happens if my OPT expires before I find a Production Control Clerk job?
If your post-completion OPT expires without employment, you enter a 60-day grace period. You cannot work during this period, but you can use the time to find a job, change your immigration status, or prepare to depart the U.S. Migrate Mate filters production control roles by OPT-friendly employers, which can help you secure an offer before your authorization window closes.
Do Production Control Clerk employers need to file any paperwork to hire me on OPT?
For initial 12-month OPT, employers do not file any petitions with USCIS. You present your EAD card and your employer completes standard Form I-9 employment verification. For STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and co-sign a Form I-983 training plan, which your school submits as part of the extension application.
What documents do I need to start a Production Control Clerk job on OPT?
You need your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card showing your authorized period of employment, your valid F-1 visa, your current I-20 with OPT authorization endorsed by your DSO, and your passport. Bring originals on your first day for I-9 verification. Some manufacturing employers also require a background check, so have your employment history and identification ready in advance.
