Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as a Sourcing Manager
Target supply chain-heavy industries first
Manufacturing, retail, tech hardware, and consumer goods companies hire Sourcing Managers at scale and have established visa sponsorship pipelines. These sectors file LCAs and H-1B petitions for this role far more consistently than smaller or service-based employers.
Highlight cost savings and supplier metrics
Employers sponsoring OPT need to justify the hire. Quantify your sourcing impact with numbers: cost reduction percentages, supplier lead time improvements, or contract value managed. Concrete results make the sponsorship decision easier for hiring managers and procurement leadership.
Check if your degree qualifies for the STEM extension
Degrees in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations research, or business analytics often qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Confirm with your DSO early so you and your employer understand the full authorization window before making a hiring decision.
Ask about sponsorship before the final interview round
Raise the H-1B sponsorship question before the offer stage, not after. Frame it professionally: confirm the company has sponsored roles at your level before. Sourcing Manager is a well-documented H-1B occupation, so most large employers already know the process.
Build fluency in procurement systems your target employers use
Proficiency in SAP Ariba, Coupa, or Oracle Procurement Cloud is frequently listed as a requirement in Sourcing Manager postings. Employers valuing specialized tool expertise are more willing to invest in sponsorship for candidates who reduce onboarding time and integration risk.
Time your OPT application to align with procurement hiring cycles
Large companies plan sourcing headcount in Q1 and Q3 budget cycles. Apply for your OPT EAD 90 days before your program end date to ensure your work authorization is active when these hiring windows open, avoiding gaps that complicate employer timelines.
Sourcing Manager OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as a Sourcing Manager on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Sourcing Manager roles qualify under F-1 OPT as long as the position is directly related to your field of study. Degrees in supply chain management, business, industrial engineering, or operations are the most common qualifying backgrounds. Your OPT EAD authorizes you to work for any employer in a role that matches your degree field, and the position doesn't need to be formally designated as a sponsoring role to use your OPT authorization.
Do Sourcing Manager employers commonly sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, particularly at mid-to-large companies in manufacturing, retail, and technology hardware. Sourcing Manager is a well-established specialty occupation under H-1B, and employers in these industries have mature immigration programs. Sponsorship is less common at small businesses or startups without dedicated HR infrastructure. Browsing Migrate Mate can help you identify which employers have an active track record of sponsoring this role specifically.
Does a Sourcing Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your degree is in supply chain management, industrial engineering, operations research, or a qualifying business analytics program, the role can support a STEM OPT extension application. Your university's DSO will verify whether your specific degree program is on the STEM Designated Degree Program list. Confirm this before accepting an offer so both you and your employer can plan around the full authorization period.
What should I tell a Sourcing Manager employer about my OPT status?
Be direct and factual. Explain that your F-1 OPT EAD authorizes you to work for any U.S. employer in a role related to your field of study, with no employer-specific petition required during OPT. If your degree qualifies for the STEM extension, mention that this gives the company up to three years of work authorization before H-1B sponsorship would be needed. Most procurement and supply chain HR teams at larger companies are familiar with OPT.
How do I find Sourcing Manager jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students, so the jobs listed are filtered for visa-friendly employers. Rather than sorting through general job postings where sponsorship willingness is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces Sourcing Manager roles at companies with documented sponsorship histories, saving you the time of screening employers manually and reducing the risk of pursuing roles that won't move forward with international candidates.
