OPT Salesforce Developer Jobs
Salesforce Developer jobs are among the more OPT-friendly roles in tech: most positions require a computer science, information systems, or MIS degree, which maps cleanly to STEM OPT extension eligibility. Strong demand from enterprise employers means sponsorship conversations tend to happen earlier in the hiring process.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as a Salesforce Developer
Lead with your Salesforce certifications
Certifications like Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I and II signal employer-ready skills before you even mention OPT. Many hiring managers treat them as a proxy for production readiness, which helps offset sponsorship hesitation early in the process.
Target employers already using Salesforce at scale
Companies with large Salesforce orgs, dedicated CRM teams, or ISV partnerships have ongoing developer needs. They're far more likely to sponsor because replacing a developer mid-project is costly, and your institutional knowledge becomes a retention argument over time.
Frame your STEM OPT timeline as an advantage
A STEM-eligible degree gives you up to three years of work authorization without H-1B visa. Present this upfront as runway for employers who are nervous about sponsorship timelines. Three years is enough time to complete two full H-1B lottery cycles.
Build a portfolio around Apex, LWC, and integrations
Salesforce Developer roles often screen on specific technical depth. Projects that demonstrate Apex triggers, Lightning Web Components, or REST API integrations give recruiters and technical interviewers concrete evidence of what you can deliver from day one.
Prioritize roles at Salesforce consulting partners
Consulting partners, especially those with Gold or Platinum status, hire Salesforce Developers continuously across client engagements. They have structured sponsorship processes and are generally more experienced navigating OPT and H-1B transitions than non-tech employers.
Mention your CPT or internship Salesforce experience explicitly
If you worked in a Salesforce environment during CPT or a prior OPT period, name the org type, the features you worked with, and the team size. Concrete prior experience in the platform accelerates hiring decisions and makes sponsorship feel lower-risk.
Salesforce Developer OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not your job title. If your degree is in computer science, information systems, MIS, or another STEM-designated field, and the role involves software development, you'll almost always qualify for the 24-month STEM extension on top of your initial 12 months. Confirm your degree's CIP code with your DSO before applying.
Do Salesforce Developer employers typically sponsor H-1B visas?
Many do, particularly mid-size and enterprise tech companies and Salesforce consulting firms. Salesforce development is a specialized skill set with consistent demand, which makes employers more willing to invest in sponsorship than for generalist roles. Use Migrate Mate to find Salesforce Developer roles from employers with active OPT and H-1B sponsorship history.
Can I work as a Salesforce Developer on OPT if my degree is in business rather than a STEM field?
Yes, you can work on your initial 12-month OPT authorization regardless of whether your degree is STEM-designated. However, a non-STEM degree means you won't qualify for the 24-month STEM extension, leaving you with a shorter authorization window. Some MIS or business analytics degrees do carry STEM designation, so verify with your DSO.
What should I do if a Salesforce Developer job posting doesn't mention visa sponsorship?
Don't self-screen out. Many postings omit sponsorship language because HR templates are generic, not because the employer refuses to sponsor. Apply, and if you advance past the first round, raise your OPT status and STEM extension eligibility proactively. Framing the timeline clearly often resolves concerns that would otherwise go unasked.
Are contract or consulting Salesforce Developer roles valid for OPT?
They can be, but the structure matters. OPT requires that employment be directly related to your degree field and meet the minimum hours requirement (typically 20 hours per week). Short-term contracts that clearly fall within your OPT validity dates are generally fine. Independent contracting as a sole proprietor is more complex and requires your DSO's guidance before accepting.
