Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship as a Solution Manager
Target consulting firms and enterprise software companies
Companies like Accenture, Deloitte, and SAP regularly hire Solution Managers on OPT and have established H-1B visa sponsorship programs. Large organizations with dedicated immigration counsel are far more likely to support your visa transition after OPT.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
Solution Manager roles require documented ties to your degree field, typically business, information systems, or computer science. Be ready to explain how your academic background directly supports the technical and strategic work the role demands.
Apply early to maximize your OPT window
Hiring and onboarding for Solution Manager roles can take two to four months. Starting your search three to four months before OPT begins ensures you're not burning authorization time while still in interviews or waiting on background checks.
Ask about H-1B sponsorship before accepting an offer
Raise sponsorship directly during the offer stage, not after signing. Ask whether the company has sponsored H-1B visas in the past three years. A company with a track record is a safer long-term bet for your immigration stability.
Verify STEM extension eligibility for your specific degree
If your degree in information systems, computer science, or a related STEM field is CIP-code eligible, you may qualify for 24 additional months of OPT. Confirm your classification with your DSO before relying on the extension in your job search timeline.
Highlight cross-functional experience in your resume and interviews
Solution Managers bridge technical teams and business stakeholders. Employers sponsoring OPT candidates want evidence of this dual fluency. Use concrete examples from internships, capstone projects, or prior roles showing you've translated technical requirements into business outcomes.
Solution Manager OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Solution Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for OPT and H-1B purposes?
Solution Manager positions generally qualify as specialty occupations because they typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as information systems, business administration, or computer science. The key is that the role must require theoretical and practical application of that specialized knowledge. Job descriptions that list a degree as preferred rather than required can create complications, so review postings carefully before applying.
How do I find Solution Manager jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and filters roles by sponsorship willingness, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't consider work authorization. Solution Manager roles on OPT are more common at mid-to-large enterprise companies and consulting firms than at early-stage startups, which often lack the legal infrastructure to support visa processes.
Can I work as a Solution Manager on STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in a qualifying STEM field such as computer science, information systems, or management information systems, you may be eligible for a 24-month STEM OPT extension. The employer must also be enrolled in the E-Verify program to support STEM OPT. Confirm your degree's CIP code eligibility with your designated school official before counting on the extension.
What should I do if my OPT authorization is expiring before I receive an H-1B approval?
If your employer files an H-1B petition by April 1 and USCIS receives it before your OPT expires, cap-gap protection automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year. This applies even if your OPT end date falls before October 1. Your DSO will issue an updated I-20 reflecting cap-gap status, which you present to your employer alongside your existing EAD.
Is prior work experience required to get a Solution Manager job on OPT?
Most Solution Manager roles are not entry-level. Employers sponsoring OPT candidates for this title generally expect two to four years of relevant experience in consulting, product management, or systems implementation. Internships, co-op programs, and capstone project work can count toward this threshold if they involved client-facing responsibilities or cross-functional solution delivery. Tailor your resume to emphasize outcomes, not just tasks.
