Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship in SAP S/4HANA
Target SAP implementation and consulting firms first
Large SAP consulting partners like Deloitte, Accenture, and Infosys have established immigration programs and sponsor H-1B visas regularly. These firms hire OPT students into functional and technical analyst roles with a clear path to sponsorship.
Lead with your S/4HANA module expertise
Employers prioritize candidates with hands-on experience in specific modules like FI, CO, MM, or SD. Listing your module specialization clearly in your resume helps recruiters assess fit quickly and signals you can contribute from day one.
Get SAP certified before your OPT ends
An SAP certification in your module strengthens your case for H-1B sponsorship by demonstrating verified, standardized skills. Employers are more likely to invest in sponsoring candidates whose qualifications reduce onboarding time and training costs.
Apply to companies mid-migration, not post-migration
Companies actively moving from SAP ECC to S/4HANA are hiring aggressively and are more willing to sponsor OPT candidates. Look for job postings referencing greenfield or brownfield migrations, as these indicate active project needs.
Clarify your OPT authorization type upfront
STEM OPT extension gives you up to 36 months of work authorization if your degree qualifies. Confirming this early in conversations removes employer uncertainty and positions you as a lower-risk hire compared to candidates with shorter remaining OPT time.
Build experience on integration points between modules
SAP S/4HANA roles requiring cross-module knowledge, such as FI-MM or SD-FI integration, are harder to fill and command stronger sponsorship consideration. Demonstrating breadth alongside your core module specialization makes you a more valuable long-term investment.
SAP S/4HANA OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can F-1 OPT students work in SAP S/4HANA roles legally?
Yes. F-1 OPT students can work in SAP S/4HANA roles as long as the position is directly related to your field of study. Degrees in information systems, computer science, finance, accounting, or supply chain management typically satisfy this requirement. Confirm the connection between your degree and the role before accepting an offer to stay compliant.
Do SAP S/4HANA jobs qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Many do, but it depends on your degree, not the job title. If your degree is in a STEM-designated field such as information systems, computer science, or engineering, and the SAP role is related to that field, you likely qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension beyond your initial 12 months. Confirm your degree's CIP code with your DSO.
How common is H-1B sponsorship for SAP S/4HANA positions?
SAP S/4HANA roles have a strong sponsorship track record. Consulting firms and large enterprises that run SAP environments routinely sponsor H-1B visas for functional consultants, technical analysts, and integration specialists. The specialized nature of these skills makes employers more willing to invest in sponsorship compared to generalist IT roles.
Where can I find SAP S/4HANA jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT and international students, so the jobs listed there are filtered for visa-friendliness. Searching on Migrate Mate saves you from applying to roles where OPT authorization is an automatic disqualifier, which is a common problem on general job boards.
Can I work as an SAP S/4HANA consultant on OPT through a third-party staffing firm?
Yes, but with important caveats. USCIS has scrutinized third-party placement arrangements for OPT students, particularly around who controls your day-to-day work. Your employer of record must be the entity that filed for your OPT authorization, and the work must relate to your degree. Discuss the arrangement with your DSO before accepting any staffing or contracting role.
