- Act as the technical advisor to Strategic Finance on planning workflows, model optimization, and system capabilities
- Develop dashboards and reporting ecosystems that surface key business insights, drive end-user adoption, and support planning processes
- Build self-service analytics capabilities that empower finance teams to access and analyze data independently
- Train and enable finance teams through development of training materials, office hours, and documentation that drive adoption, confidence, and best practices
- Experiment with AI solutions to automate workflows, improve accuracy, and elevate the speed and impact of Strategic Finance operations
- Stay current on Pigment product releases and industry best practices, proactively identifying opportunities to leverage new capabilities
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in financial systems, FP&A, business systems, or data-focused roles in a SaaS, high-growth, and/or B2B environment
- Proven expertise building and maintaining financial planning tools such as Pigment, Anaplan, or Adaptive—including model design, formula writing, and system configuration
- Strong technical foundations in SQL or similar languages, with solid understanding of data flows, integrations, and governance across finance systems
- Track record of translating business needs into scalable system solutions and driving projects from concept to adoption
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build strong cross-functional relationships
- Self-starter mindset with ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and drive initiatives independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Pigment specifically; driven implementations and integrations in a high-growth or pre-IPO or B2B SaaS environment
- Familiarity with Mode for data visualization and Snowflake data warehouse to support reporting and insights
- Understanding of FP&A processes, SaaS metrics and financial modeling principles
- Experience with process automation, scripting or workflow tools

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Strategic Finance Lead
Confirm your OPT employer authorization before accepting
Your employer must be registered with E-Verify to hire you during the STEM OPT extension period. Confirm this before signing any offer. Startups and smaller firms sometimes lack E-Verify registration, which would limit you to 12 months of standard OPT.
Target companies with active H-1B sponsorship histories
Strategic Finance Lead roles are almost always classified as specialty occupations, making them strong H-1B candidates. Prioritize companies that have sponsored finance professionals before. Past sponsorship behavior is the single most reliable predictor of future sponsorship willingness.
Clarify your SOC code with your DSO early
STEM OPT eligibility for strategic finance roles depends on the Standard Occupational Classification code your employer uses. Financial Analysts (13-2051) and Operations Research Analysts (15-2031) typically qualify. Confirm the correct SOC code with your DSO before your employer files the I-983 training plan.
Position your quantitative skills as a differentiator
Strategic finance candidates with strong modeling, SQL, or Python skills are more competitive and more likely to receive sponsorship. Employers investing in H-1B sponsorship want candidates who are difficult to replace. Emphasize analytical depth, not just financial reporting experience, in every application.
Start the H-1B conversation during the offer stage
Do not wait until your OPT is expiring to raise visa sponsorship. Bring it up directly during offer negotiations so both sides have clear expectations. Employers who are unwilling to sponsor will tell you then, saving you from accepting a role with no long-term path.
Use your OPT period to build cross-functional business credibility
Strategic Finance Leads who partner closely with operations, product, and go-to-market teams are harder to replace and easier to sponsor. Use your OPT window to expand your internal influence, not just close the books. Demonstrated business impact strengthens any future visa petition.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Strategic Finance Lead roles qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Most do, but it depends on the SOC code your employer assigns. Roles classified under Financial Analysts (13-2051) or Operations Research Analysts (15-2031) qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you up to three years total. Roles classified under general management codes typically do not qualify, so confirm the classification with your DSO before your employer files the I-983.
How do I find Strategic Finance Lead jobs that sponsor OPT and H-1B?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for employers willing to sponsor F-1 OPT students and H-1B visa holders, so you're not wasting time on roles that won't support your authorization. Strategic finance positions at growth-stage companies and larger enterprises are the most likely to have sponsorship infrastructure already in place.
Can I work as a Strategic Finance Lead at a startup on OPT?
Yes, but verify the startup is registered with E-Verify before accepting an offer, since STEM OPT extension requires E-Verify compliance. Many early-stage startups have not yet registered. If the company is pre-Series B, also assess whether they have the legal and HR resources to navigate H-1B sponsorship when your OPT window closes.
What happens to my OPT authorization if I get promoted or change roles within the same company?
A promotion within the same employer generally does not disrupt your OPT status as long as the role remains within your degree field. However, if the job duties change significantly, you should notify your DSO and confirm the updated role still aligns with your OPT authorization. For STEM OPT extensions, any material change in employment must be reported through an updated I-983 training plan.
Is a Strategic Finance Lead role strong enough to support an H-1B petition after OPT?
Yes. Strategic Finance Lead positions routinely qualify as H-1B specialty occupations because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. The role's combination of financial modeling, business strategy, and cross-functional analysis aligns well with the specialty occupation standard. Employers with prior finance sponsorship experience will find the petition straightforward to prepare.
