Job Description
Candidates must be located in the Raleigh, NC area or be willing to relocate to Raleigh, NC to be considered for this position.
Job Summary
Advance Auto Parts is seeking a high performing candidate to join our Supply Chain Strategy & Ops team. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role responsible for driving analytical insights, strategic initiatives, and transformational change across our end-to-end supply chain.
This role is ideal for a self-driven problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys breaking down complex business problems, excels at pulling together rigorous analytics and is motivated by measurable business impact. You will work closely with supply chain leadership and cross-functional partners to shape strategy, develop scalable solutions, and enable data-driven decision making that improves performance today while building the supply chain capabilities of the future.
The Senior Supply Chain Analyst will play a critical role in turning data into insight, insight into strategy, and strategy into execution.
What Will You Do?
Strategy & Transformation
- Support the development and execution of multi-year supply chain strategies aligned to enterprise objectives.
- Identify high-impact opportunities across network design, replenishment, transportation, and fulfillment to improve cost, service, and working capital.
- Translate broad strategic objectives into structured analyses, actionable recommendations, and executable roadmaps.
- Partner with Supply Chain Transformation leaders to design, prototype, test, and scale new processes, tools, capabilities, and decision frameworks.
Analytical Problem Solving & Business Impact
- Tackle open-ended and ambiguous supply chain problems using a structured, hypothesis-driven approach.
- Independently define problem statements, determine appropriate analyses, and work through incomplete or imperfect data.
- Build advanced analytical models to quantify opportunities, tradeoffs, and risks.
- Measure impact, track results, and continuously refine recommendations based on performance.
Advanced Data, Analytics, and Insights
- Leverage large, complex data sets to uncover trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the supply chain.
- Apply strong SQL skills and advanced analytics to extract, transform, and analyze data across multiple systems.
- Develop scalable analytical tools, dashboards, and models to support ongoing decision-making.
- Collaborate with data, IT, and analytics teams to improve data quality, accessibility, and analytical capabilities.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
- Partner closely with Supply Chain, Inventory, Merchandising, Finance, Technology, and Store Operations teams.
- Communicate insights clearly and effectively to audiences ranging from analysts to senior leaders.
- Explain not just what the data says, but why it matters and how it should influence decisions.
- Influence without authority by building trust, credibility, and strong business understanding.
What Makes You Successful in This Role?
- You are energized by complex, ambiguous problems and comfortable operating without a predefined playbook.
- You are deeply analytical, but always focused on real-world business outcomes, not just analysis.
- You balance strategic thinking with a hands-on, execution-oriented mindset.
- You are curious, proactive, and driven to make things better—even when the path forward is not obvious or challenging.
- You can move seamlessly between data, strategy, and stakeholder communication.
Qualifications
Core Skills & Capabilities
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and develop actionable insights.
- Strong business acumen with an understanding of supply chain tradeoffs, financial drivers, and operational impacts.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex analyses and recommendations, including the “why” and “how,” to cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Technical Skills
- Advanced SQL skills required; experience working with large, multi-source datasets.
- Advanced Excel skills; comfort building analytical models and financial impact assessments.
- Experience with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Python, R) preferred.
- Experience working with supply chain, inventory, or operations data strongly preferred.
Certifications, Experience, and Education
Experience:
- 4+ years of experience in supply chain analytics, strategy, consulting, business analytics, or a related field.
- Experience in retail, distribution, e-commerce, or consumer-focused supply chain environments strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of driving business impact through data-driven insights.
- SQL & analytical proficiency will be assessed as part of the interview process.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, Finance, Economics, Operations Research, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or similar) preferred but not required.
Why This Role?
- Opportunity to shape the future of Supply Chain at Advance Auto Parts.
- High visibility and exposure to senior leaders.
- A seat at the table for strategic decision making—not just reporting results.
- A team culture that values curiosity, ownership, and meaningful impact.

Target companies with established OPT hiring pipelines
Large technology, consulting, and financial services firms such as Google, McKinsey, and JPMorgan regularly hire OPT students into strategy and operations roles and have HR infrastructure to handle OPT work authorization without friction.
Clarify your STEM OPT eligibility early
Strategy and operations roles often fall under STEM-designated CIP codes if your degree is in business analytics, operations research, or industrial engineering. Confirming STEM eligibility before applying gives you a stronger case with employers evaluating authorization timelines.
Frame your OPT timeline around the role's project cycles
Strategy and operations work is project-based. Showing employers your OPT authorization covers a full planning or fiscal cycle, typically 12 to 24 months, makes it easier for hiring managers to justify the sponsorship conversation with leadership.
Emphasize cross-functional experience in your application
Strategy and operations roles require coordinating across finance, product, and engineering teams. Highlighting specific cross-functional projects from internships or coursework directly addresses what hiring managers assess when evaluating OPT candidates for these positions.
Prepare a concise OPT authorization summary for recruiters
Recruiters in strategy and operations often lack immigration expertise. A one-paragraph summary explaining your current authorization, STEM extension eligibility, and earliest H-1B visa eligibility date removes ambiguity and speeds up internal approval to move you forward.
Use Migrate Mate to identify OPT-friendly employers in strategy roles
Migrate Mate filters jobs by OPT sponsorship willingness, letting you focus applications on strategy and operations employers who have already demonstrated openness to hiring international candidates, which significantly improves your offer conversion rate.
Strategy Business Operations OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Strategy Business Operations roles typically qualify for STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your degree was in a STEM-designated field such as business analytics, operations research, industrial engineering, or management information systems, you likely qualify for the 24-month STEM extension. The role itself must also involve applying STEM skills directly, which strategy and operations positions generally satisfy given their reliance on data analysis and quantitative modeling.
How do I find Strategy Business Operations jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find strategy and operations roles from employers who are open to OPT work authorization. Generic job searches require filtering through hundreds of listings where sponsorship openness is unstated. Migrate Mate surfaces roles specifically relevant to F-1 OPT students, saving significant time during a period when your authorization window is limited.
Can I work as a Strategy Business Operations contractor or consultant on OPT?
OPT requires that your work be directly related to your field of study and that you are employed by or contracted through a legitimate employer. Self-employment is allowed on OPT with restrictions, but consulting through a third-party staffing agency for strategy roles is generally permissible. You must log all employment in the SEVP portal and ensure each engagement qualifies as authorized work under your DSO's guidance.
What happens to my OPT status if a strategy operations role is rescinded or ends early?
You have a 90-day unemployment allowance across your entire OPT period. If a strategy or operations role ends unexpectedly, that clock resumes immediately. Report the change to your DSO and update your SEVP portal record promptly. For STEM OPT, the unemployment limit is still 90 days total across the extension period, so securing a new position quickly is critical to maintaining valid status.
Are part-time Strategy Business Operations roles allowed on OPT?
Yes, part-time work of 20 hours or more per week counts as valid OPT employment, including strategy and operations roles. Fewer than 20 hours per week still qualifies but counts toward your 90-day unemployment allowance. During the STEM OPT extension, your employer must enroll in E-Verify regardless of whether the role is part-time or full-time, and the formal training plan requirement applies in both cases.
