Optician Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a optician in Georgia?
Georgia requires dispensing opticians to hold a license issued by the Georgia State Board of Optometry before fitting or dispensing eyeglasses or contact lenses. Candidates typically complete an accredited opticianry program or accumulate supervised on-the-job training, then pass a licensing exam recognized by the board. Holding American Board of Opticianry certification strengthens an application and is required or preferred by many Georgia employers.
Which companies hire opticians in Georgia?
Georgia optician roles are posted by LensCrafters, Walmart, and Keplr Vision and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Georgia's large retail optical chains concentrated in metro Atlanta alongside hospital-affiliated eye centers in cities like Augusta and Macon create steady demand across a range of practice settings.
Which Georgia cities have the most optician jobs?
Atlanta, Augusta, and Marietta have the most optician openings in Georgia right now. Atlanta dominates due to its population size, concentration of retail optical chains, and large ophthalmology and optometry group practices, while Augusta and Savannah drive demand through regional medical centers and growing suburban residential corridors that support independent optical shops and clinic-based positions.
Are there remote optician jobs in Georgia?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of optician openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the hands-on nature of most optician work. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include patient follow-up communications, insurance verification, and optical practice management, though core dispensing duties require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a optician in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an optician apprenticeship or trainee position at a retail optical chain, where on-the-job training counts toward Georgia licensure hours. Large Georgia employers like LensCrafters and Walmart Vision Centers regularly bring on optical associates and trainees who learn dispensing under a licensed optician. Candidates coming from customer service, sales, or medical front-desk roles have a practical edge, and enrolling in an accredited opticianry program while working accelerates the path to full licensure.
