Warby Parker was founded with a mission: to inspire and impact the world with vision, purpose, and style.
We're constantly asking ourselves how we can do more and make a greater impact, and that starts by reimagining everything that a company and industry can be. We want to demonstrate that a business can scale while doing good in the world, without charging a premium for it. And we’ve learned that it takes creativity, empathy, and innovation to achieve that goal.
Since the day we launched in 2010, we’ve pioneered ideas, designed products, and developed technologies that help people see. We offer everything you need for happier eyes at a price that leaves you with money in your pocket, from designer-quality glasses and contacts to eye exams and vision tests, and you can meet us online, at our stores, or even in your home. Wherever and whenever you need it, we’re there to make exceptional vision care simple and accessible. (Delightful, too.)
Ultimately, we believe in vision for all, which is why for every pair of glasses or sunglasses we sell, a pair of glasses is distributed to someone in need through our Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program.

Optician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a optician in California?
California requires opticians to hold a state-issued license from the California State Board of Optometry before dispensing eyeglasses or contact lenses. To qualify, candidates must complete approved coursework in spectacle dispensing and contact lens dispensing, pass the California licensing examinations, and submit a license application. Most candidates complete their education through an accredited opticianry program at a California community college before sitting for the exams.
How much do opticians make in California?
Opticians in California earn a median of about $57,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $42,390 for the lowest 10% to over $81,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire opticians in California?
Employers hiring opticians in California right now include Oakley, Warby Parker, and JINS Eyewear US, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health systems, retail optical chains, and independent ophthalmology practices all hire consistently throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most optician jobs?
San Diego, Santa Clara, and Fremont have the most optician openings in California. Los Angeles and San Diego generate high volume because of their dense populations and concentration of retail optical chains and medical groups, while the Bay Area's large employer campuses and integrated health systems like Kaiser Permanente drive steady demand across the region.
Are there remote optician jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Optician work is hands-on by nature, requiring in-person patient fitting and frame adjustments, so fully remote roles are uncommon. About 0% of optician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those typically involve optical customer service, insurance verification, or optical lab order processing rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a optician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for an optical sales associate or optical assistant role at a retail optical chain in California, where on-the-job training is common and employers often sponsor candidates through California's licensure coursework. Large retail operators and Kaiser Permanente occasionally offer formal training programs for unlicensed candidates. Enrolling in an opticianry certificate program at a California community college while working part-time in retail optical gives candidates a credential advantage and a faster path to a full dispensing role.
Where can I find and apply to optician jobs in California?
You can find and apply to optician jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across retail optical chains, health systems, and independent practices. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employer.
