INTRODUCTION
The Chair of Teaching Partnerships leads the Libraries’ curricular and co-curricular teaching and learning efforts, which center on developing students’ information proficiency for academic and professional success and for civic participation. Partnering with faculty in the strategic integration of information literacies in their courses, and with students as they develop critical information practices at all levels, Teaching Partnerships leads and manages the Libraries curriculum strategy and development and ensures meaningful connection with campus curricula. The Chair of Teaching Partnerships works closely with the Chairs of Research Partnerships and ISLeS, as well as other library departments and stakeholders across campus and the State to forge collaborations that increase library ability to collectively advance student outcomes. The department partners with students as creators in exploratory, experiential practices, as they make sense of and create their own information. Teaching Partnerships has primary responsibility for teaching in the Libraries, for supporting Libraries’ faculty and staff in proficiency in teaching, and for representing the Libraries in teaching/learning focused efforts on campus and beyond.
Department heads in the UNL Libraries are expected to practice a range of leadership and management approaches and to pursue departmental planning and development through inclusive, multi-directional approaches and processes.
Responsibilities:
- Leads departmental personnel in setting and achieving departmental goals and objectives in line with the Libraries’ and the Research & Learning division’s strategic priorities.
- Facilitates the development of an inclusive and collaborative culture within the department.
- Manages the department, including strategy, planning, policy, personnel, and assessment matters.
- Holds accountability for the department’s work; shares and delegates responsibility as appropriate, for the successful delivery of services, for the success of individuals in the department, and for the success of the organization.
- Contributes to departmental efforts to ensure that every person and every interaction matters.
- Supervises directly the work of 6-9 full-time individuals.
- Supports the development of all personnel in the department, including ongoing support for faculty members pursuing tenure and/or promotion.
- Collaborates with other department leaders, library administration, and campus and state stakeholders to ensure effective, efficient, and user-focused services.
- Contributes to divisional strategy and planning efforts within Research & Learning.
- Engages in university-wide conversations, committees, and other forums relevant to areas of leadership and responsibility and as a representative of the Libraries’ distinctive role.
- Participates actively in the profession relevant to areas of leadership and responsibility.
The Chair of Teaching Partnerships reports to the Associate Dean for Research & Learning. The responsibilities of the chair are expected to be at least .51 FTE. The individual’s remaining FTE will be in other assigned areas of responsibility, research, and/or service, as determined by the needs of the organization and in consultation with the successful candidate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- UNL Libraries’ faculty member at or above the rank of associate professor (tenure-line or practice-line).
- Minimum of five years of experience in an academic library or closely related work.
- Demonstrated commitment to and support of departmental efforts to ensure that every person and every interaction matters.
