Parts Clerk Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a parts clerk in New York?
A high school diploma or equivalent credential recognized by the New York State Education Department is the standard entry requirement for most parts clerk roles. Employers in New York typically value hands-on experience with parts management software and a working knowledge of the relevant parts category, whether automotive, transit, or industrial. Completing a vocational or automotive technology program at a BOCES center or community college strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do parts clerks make in New York?
Parts clerks in New York earn a median of about $60,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $42,580 for the lowest 10% to over $89,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire parts clerks in New York?
Employers hiring parts clerks in New York right now include Canton-Potsdam Hospital, ABM Industries, and BJ's Wholesale Club, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense network of automotive dealerships, public transit operations, and industrial distribution centers means parts clerk demand is spread across both private employers and public agencies throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most parts clerk jobs?
Potsdam, Binghamton, and Brooklyn have the most parts clerk openings in New York. New York City leads because of the MTA's large fleet maintenance operations and the high density of dealerships and distribution centers across the boroughs, while Buffalo and Albany reflect strong regional automotive retail and industrial supply activity anchored by manufacturers and large fleet operators in western and capital-region New York.
Are there remote parts clerk jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Parts clerk work is primarily hands-on, requiring physical handling of inventory, in-person counter service, and on-site parts pulling, which limits remote options significantly. About 8% of parts clerk openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to involve catalog management, parts procurement coordination, or vendor order processing rather than warehouse or counter duties.
How can I get hired as a parts clerk in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a parts counter trainee or warehouse associate role at a franchised dealership or fleet operation, where on-the-job training covers parts lookup systems and inventory processes from day one. Large New York employer types such as transit agencies and regional truck dealerships regularly bring in candidates with no prior parts experience if they hold a valid New York driver's license and demonstrate basic computer proficiency. Completing an automotive technology course at a BOCES or SUNY community college, or moving laterally from a shipping and receiving or stockroom role, meaningfully improves a candidate's odds.
Where can I find and apply to parts clerk jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to parts clerk jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
