People Operations Specialist Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a people operations specialist job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's Loop and Fulton Market tech corridor, where demand from growth-stage startups and enterprise firms runs consistently high. Healthcare systems on the North Side and financial services firms downtown also hire steadily. Candidates who combine HRIS proficiency with employee lifecycle experience stand out locally, and familiarity with Chicago's diverse, multi-site workforce environments gives a practical edge in interviews.
Which companies hire people operations specialists in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring people operations specialists in Chicago include Kraft Heinz, Grant Thornton, and Huron Consulting, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's hiring mix tends to run from high-growth tech and fintech startups in Fulton Market and River North to large healthcare networks, insurance firms, and professional services organizations headquartered in the Loop.
Are there remote people operations specialist jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though with limits, since people operations work that involves onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations often requires regular in-person presence. About 26% of people operations specialist openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most flexibility found at technology companies and consulting firms. Tasks like HRIS management, reporting, and policy documentation tend to be the most remote-friendly components of the role locally.
How can I get a people operations specialist job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through an HR coordinator or HR assistant role at a mid-size startup in Fulton Market or a large employer like a hospital network or university, where generalist exposure builds quickly. Internship programs at Chicago-area tech companies and staffing firms also convert into full-time people operations roles. Demonstrating hands-on HRIS experience, even from academic projects or volunteer work, moves entry-level candidates ahead of the competition locally.
Which industries hire the most people operations specialists in Chicago?
Chicago people operations specialist roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Food & Beverage, and Accounting & Auditing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's deep base of corporate headquarters, hospital systems, and a fast-growing technology sector means consistent demand across all three, with financial services and insurance adding further volume given the city's long-standing strength in those fields.
