Certified Athletic Trainer (part-time 28-hours/week)
BYU Extramural Sports is seeking an athletic trainer with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice. This position provides certified athletic training care and services for assigned BYU Extramural Sports teams that are in line with the vision and standards of BYU. This position reports to the Extramural Sports Athletic Training Manager. Duties included: 1) Injury Prevention, 2) First Aid and Emergency Care, 3) Initial injury evaluations, 4) Triage, 5) Injury rehabilitations and 6) Record keeping. (BYU Extramural Sports is transitioning to an open clinic model with greater emphasis on patient outcomes as opposed to coverage of practices.)
Note: This is a part-time position (28 hours per week).
What you’ll do in this position:
Athletics Training
- Provide onsite injury/illness care, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and on-field assessments.
- Assess injury risk; perform ergonomic evaluations, coaching, self-care instruction, and overall wellness promotion.
- Coordinate and implement injury-prevention programs and customized preventative strategies.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, management, and their role in recovery.
- Document all patient encounters electronically.
- Serve as a clinical instructor for student athletic trainers, providing leadership, training, and supervision.
- Complete weekly Medbridge continuing-education modules and attend weekly professional-development meetings.
- Perform literature searches and present assigned journal articles.
- Attend practices and games as assigned; travel may be required.
- Assist with annual pre-participation physicals, including medical screenings, functional tests, and concussion baseline testing.
- Maintain daily and weekly cleaning duties in the athletic training room; support administrative tasks as assigned.
- Communicate with coaching and sports-medicine staff regarding injuries, referrals, and return-to-play progress.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Current certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).
- Knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
- Decision-making skills including ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, coaches, staff and families.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.

Pay Grade: 50
Typical Starting Pay: $25.25 - $32.75 per hour
The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
