Physical Therapist Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physical therapist job in Richmond?
The strongest hiring in Richmond comes from its major health systems, outpatient orthopedic and sports rehab clinics, and home health agencies serving the broader metro. Candidates with experience in neurological rehab or geriatric care find consistent openings given Richmond's older residential population. Targeting hospital-affiliated outpatient practices and the growing sports medicine clinics near Short Pump gives you an edge in a market that rewards specialized clinical experience.
Which companies hire physical therapists in Richmond?
Companies currently hiring physical therapists in Richmond include HiredFirst, Johnston-Willis Hospital, and Bon Secours, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's employer mix runs from large health system networks with multiple outpatient sites to independently owned orthopedic and sports rehab practices concentrated in the West End and near the VCU Health campus.
Are there remote physical therapist jobs in Richmond?
Yes, but remote work is limited for physical therapists given the hands-on, patient-facing nature of the role. About 0% of physical therapist openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, largely covering telehealth consultations, care coordination, and documentation-heavy roles. Richmond's telehealth-adjacent positions are most common within larger health system administrative arms and home health triage functions.
How can I get a physical therapist job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is securing a clinical rotation or new-graduate residency through one of the VCU Health-affiliated outpatient sites, which regularly onboard DPT graduates for structured mentorship programs. Home health agencies across the Southside also hire new graduates at a higher rate than hospital inpatient units. Highlighting any orthopedic or neurological rotation hours and being open to PRN or part-time schedules significantly improves your chances in a competitive local market.
Which industries hire the most physical therapists in Richmond?
The sectors hiring the most physical therapists in Richmond are Healthcare & Medical Services and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's concentration of regional hospital systems, a growing senior living corridor along the West End, and an active sports medicine scene tied to local universities and amateur athletics drive consistent demand across those sectors.
