Physician Jobs in Memphis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physician job in Memphis?
Focus your search on the Medical District and Midtown, where large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and specialty group practices concentrate the most openings. Candidates with experience in primary care, hospitalist medicine, or high-demand specialties like oncology and cardiology have an edge. Familiarity with underserved community health settings also stands out, since Memphis has a strong federally qualified health center presence looking for clinicians willing to serve diverse patient populations.
Which companies hire physicians in Memphis?
Employers hiring physicians in Memphis right now include Tenet Healthcare, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Memphis draws from a mix of large integrated health systems, academic teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Tennessee, and independent multispecialty group practices concentrated in the Medical District and East Memphis corridors.
Are there remote physician jobs in Memphis?
Yes, but only in a narrow slice of the field, since most physician roles require in-person patient care. About 7% of physician openings tied to Memphis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, covering roles such as telehealth primary care, utilization review, and medical directorship positions that do not require hands-on clinical work. Administrative and advisory physician roles at Memphis-based insurers and managed care organizations are the most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How can I get a physician job in Memphis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Memphis is a residency or fellowship at a University of Tennessee-affiliated program, which places trainees directly into the local hiring pipeline at partnered hospitals and clinics. Newly licensed physicians should also target federally qualified health centers and community health organizations in Memphis, which frequently hire recent graduates and offer loan repayment incentives. Hospitalist and urgent care roles at regional health systems are another practical first step, since they hire based on board certification rather than years of independent practice.
Which industries hire the most physicians in Memphis?
Most physician openings in Memphis sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Non-Profit & Social Services, and Human Resources, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Memphis serves as a regional healthcare hub for the mid-South, with a large uninsured and underinsured population that sustains consistent clinical demand across hospital systems, federally funded community health programs, and specialty group practices throughout the metro area.
