POWER STUDIES ENGINEER
Location: Eden Prairie, MN | Hybrid | Remote
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (based on experience)
EVS is seeking a Power Studies Engineer to support advanced electrical system modeling, analysis, and project coordination across utility and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an engineer who is ready to take on more complex studies, work with greater independence, and contribute to both project execution and team development. You’ll play a key role in delivering high quality power system studies while collaborating across engineering disciplines and supporting technically complex projects.
What You’ll Do
- Perform electrical system modeling and analysis across core studies including ampacity, short circuit, reactive analysis, and AC losses.
- Develop and expand capabilities in advanced studies such as harmonics, arc flash, grounding modeling, insulation coordination, and equivalent impedance calculations.
- Prepare study reports, perform self-QC, and review project inputs, standards, and client requirements.
- Apply a strong understanding of system inputs and their impact on modeling outcomes, especially in complex scenarios.
- Coordinate with studies and design teams to align project requirements, inputs, and deliverables.
- Support project execution through clear communication of status, risks, and updates.
- Maintain accurate documentation of models, analyses, and reports in accordance with company standards.
- Provide guidance to junior engineers by sharing knowledge, reviewing work, and supporting technical development.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to solve complex technical challenges and expand expertise.
- Participate in training, process improvements, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables.
- Proactively communicate workload, risks, and potential delays to leadership.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- 3+ years of experience in power systems studies, electrical engineering analysis, or a related field.
- Experience performing studies such as short circuit, ampacity, grounding, or reactive analysis.
- Exposure to advanced studies such as arc flash, harmonics, or insulation coordination is a plus.
- Proficiency with modeling and analysis tools such as ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, or CDEGS.
- Strong skills in Excel, MathCAD, or similar engineering calculation tools.
- Understanding of QA/QC processes and experience reviewing engineering deliverables.
- Knowledge of power systems fundamentals and industry standards such as IEEE, ICEA, and NFPA.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering theory to real-world scenarios.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Interest in mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.
