Test Engineer Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a test engineer in Minnesota?
Most test engineer roles in Minnesota require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. No state-issued license is required for the role itself, but many positions in Minnesota's medical device sector expect familiarity with FDA quality system regulations and ISO standards. Certifications such as ISTQB or ASQ's Certified Quality Technician strengthen a candidate's profile considerably for Minnesota employers.
Which companies hire test engineers in Minnesota?
Minnesota test engineer roles are posted by General Dynamics Mission Systems, nVent, and Starkey and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Minnesota's concentration of medical technology, defense electronics, and industrial manufacturing companies creates unusually consistent demand for test engineers at all experience levels.
Which Minnesota cities have the most test engineer jobs?
Bloomington, Saint Paul, and Eden Prairie account for the most test engineer openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro drives the largest share of postings because Medtronic, 3M, Honeywell, and a dense cluster of medical device and aerospace suppliers are headquartered or have major operations there, while Rochester's concentration in medical technology and IBM draws additional openings outside the metro.
Are there remote test engineer jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the specialty. About 21% of test engineer openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the mix of lab-based hardware roles that require on-site work and software or automation testing roles that can run entirely remotely. Automated software QA and test development positions are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid schedules.
How can I get hired as a test engineer in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting quality assurance technician or test technician roles at Minnesota's medical device and manufacturing companies, which regularly bring in candidates from adjacent positions in production, calibration, or IT support. Medtronic and 3M both run structured new-graduate programs that include quality and test engineering rotations. Earning an ISTQB Foundation certification or completing a Minnesota State community college program in electronics or quality technology gives early-career candidates a concrete credential that hiring managers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to test engineer jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to test engineer jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings updated regularly. Search the roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
