MSA Professional Services is seeking a Project Engineer – Transportation to support the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects.
This role is ideal for a licensed transportation engineer who enjoys balancing technical design, client interaction, and project leadership responsibilities. You will work with minimal oversight to lead project components, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and deliver innovative transportation solutions that improve mobility and safety for the communities we serve. The Project Engineer serves as a key technical resource, mentors junior staff, and helps maintain strong client relationships while contributing to project success.

Responsibilities
Transportation Design & Technical Leadership:
- Lead the design and delivery of roadway, highway, and multimodal transportation projects utilizing OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and related design tools
- Perform and review roadway geometrics, corridor modeling, drainage analysis, traffic accommodations, and construction staging plans
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation, specifications, and bidding documents
- Coordinate project deliverables and ensure compliance with applicable DOT and local agency standards
- Provide technical QA/QC review and support constructability throughout project development
Project Execution:
- Lead assigned project components through planning, design, and construction phases with minimal oversight
- Monitor project scope, schedule, and budget and proactively identify and resolve issues
- Coordinate and integrate work completed by junior staff and technical support personnel
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities as needed
- Support project managers in maintaining successful project delivery and client satisfaction
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Maintain consistent communication with clients, project managers, agency personnel, and project stakeholders
- Lead or co-lead client meetings to present technical updates and coordinate project activities
- Serve as a key client contact for assigned projects and project tasks
- Support proposal development and project pursuits for transportation clients
- Participate in industry organizations and conferences to support client relationships and business development efforts
Mentorship & Team Development:
- Mentor graduate engineers and junior staff through technical guidance, project coordination, and work review
- Support staff development through coaching and knowledge sharing
- Foster collaboration and continuous improvement across project teams
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of transportation engineering experience required
- Experience with roadway design for state and local transportation agencies preferred
- Experience utilizing OpenRoads Designer (ORD) required
Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Skills:
- Strong understanding of transportation engineering principles, roadway design standards, and DOT requirements
- Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and related transportation design software
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead project components and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Ability to monitor project budgets, schedules, and scope performance
- Effective leadership and mentoring skills for developing junior staff
- Desire to work in a collaborative consulting environment focused on delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions
