Entry Level Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level primary care nurse practitioner job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for a completed MSN or DNP, an active NP license, and board certification through AANP or ANCC. Clinical rotation experience in primary care settings gives candidates a clear edge. Tailoring your application to show familiarity with chronic disease management, preventive care, and EMR platforms signals readiness for independent practice from day one.
Which companies hire entry level primary care nurse practitioners?
Companies hiring entry level primary care nurse practitioners right now include OSF HealthCare, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and Optum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from community health centers, multi-specialty group practices, federally qualified health centers, and large health system outpatient clinics that build new-grad cohorts into their staffing model.
Are there remote entry level primary care nurse practitioner jobs?
Yes, though most entry level roles have an on-site or hybrid component given the hands-on nature of primary care. About 5% of entry level primary care nurse practitioner openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically involve telehealth panels focused on chronic disease follow-up or behavioral health integration rather than acute or diagnostic visits.
Are these new grad primary care nurse practitioner jobs?
Yes, many of these listings are new grad and junior roles that explicitly welcome candidates with limited post-certification experience. A posting is new-grad friendly when it lists zero to two years of experience as acceptable, counts clinical rotations or preceptorship hours toward the requirement, or accepts a strong internship in lieu of full-time practice history. Recent graduates entering primary care should filter for those signals when reviewing openings.
Which industries hire the most entry level primary care nurse practitioners?
Entry Level primary care nurse practitioner roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Consulting & Professional Services, and Non-Profit & Social Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive entry level hiring because they operate high-volume outpatient practices, face persistent provider shortages in underserved communities, and often use structured onboarding programs that make them well suited to supporting new graduates transitioning into independent practice.
