Principal Devops Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal devops engineer in Louisiana?
The path to principal devops engineer in Louisiana typically starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, followed by progressive experience in systems engineering or site reliability roles. Louisiana does not require a state-issued license for this position. Most employers in New Orleans and Baton Rouge look for candidates who have led infrastructure teams and hold cloud certifications from AWS, Google, or Microsoft to validate hands-on expertise.
How much do principal devops engineers make in Louisiana?
Principal devops engineers in Louisiana earn a median of about $102,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,350 for the lowest 10% to over $151,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire principal devops engineers in Louisiana?
Louisiana principal devops engineer roles are posted by Worley, Northrop Grumman, and Tulane University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's energy sector and large hospital networks have particularly consistent demand for senior DevOps leadership with enterprise infrastructure backgrounds.
Which Louisiana cities have the most principal devops engineer jobs?
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Cameron hold the most principal devops engineer openings in Louisiana. New Orleans drives the largest share through its finance, healthcare, and technology services employers, while Baton Rouge benefits from state government IT contracts and petrochemical industry engineering teams, and Shreveport draws openings from regional healthcare systems and logistics operations.
Are there remote principal devops engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of principal devops engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of this work involves cloud systems and pipeline tooling that requires no physical presence. Roles focused on architecture, automation, and platform governance are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a principal devops engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a junior systems administrator or cloud engineer role, which large Louisiana employers such as Entergy or Ochsner Health use as a feeder for senior DevOps tracks. Building a portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects on GitHub and earning an AWS or Azure associate certification gives candidates a measurable edge. From there, moving into a DevOps engineer role and taking on pipeline ownership positions you for the principal level over time.
Where can I find and apply to principal devops engineer jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to principal devops engineer jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Louisiana openings updated in real time. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and specialization, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
