Principal Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a principal job in Kansas City?
The most direct path is through Kansas City Public Schools, the area's largest district, along with the city's expanding charter sector, which includes several nationally affiliated networks with schools across the urban core. Candidates who have built assistant principal or dean-of-students experience within a Kansas City school already have a local reputation advantage. Demonstrating familiarity with the district's specific student demographics and improvement priorities sharpens an application considerably.
Which companies hire principals in Kansas City?
Employers hiring principals in Kansas City right now include USD, HDR, and Parsons, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas City's mix of large urban public districts, faith-based private schools, and independent charter operators means principal openings appear across a broad range of institution types and school sizes.
Are there remote principal jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, though options are limited since most principal roles require daily on-site leadership of a school building. About 33% of principal openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to be in instructional coaching, curriculum director, or edtech-adjacent leadership roles rather than building-level principal positions. Fully remote work is most common in district-level or network-level administrative roles.
How can I get a principal job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an assistant principal role within Kansas City Public Schools or one of the local charter networks, which regularly promote from within their teacher-leader pipelines. Kansas City's charter sector, including schools affiliated with national networks operating in the urban core, tends to offer more accelerated leadership tracks for strong instructional candidates. Completing a Kansas City-area university's building leadership licensure program while already teaching in the district gives candidates a visible local profile before they apply.
Which industries hire the most principals in Kansas City?
Most principal openings in Kansas City sit in Education, Consulting & Professional Services, and Construction & Real Estate, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas City's concentration of large public school districts, a dense network of faith-based private schools in the suburbs, and a growing charter sector in the urban core collectively drive consistent local demand for building-level leadership.
