INTRODUCTION
Cullerton Group is seeking an experienced Senior Product Design & Development Engineer for a prospective opportunity supporting a leading manufacturer of advanced electrical and electronic components serving the automotive and transportation industries. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in mechanical and electromechanical product design, product development, and engineering problem-solving. Experience designing automotive electrical connectors, precision plastic housings, electronic components, or similar electromechanical assemblies is highly preferred.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical components, including electrical connectors, precision plastic housings, and related assemblies.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and product specifications.
- Perform GD&T, dimensional tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA.
- Support product development from concept through prototyping, validation, and production release.
- Conduct design reviews, DFMEA, engineering calculations, and root-cause analysis.
- Evaluate materials, mechanical performance, dimensional requirements, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Collaborate with tooling, manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Troubleshoot product fit, function, assembly, and reliability issues.
- Support product testing, design verification, engineering changes, and manufacturing launch activities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of mechanical or electromechanical product design and development experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Hands-on experience designing mechanical or electromechanical products and components.
- Proficiency with Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, engineering drawings, and DFM/DFA.
- Familiarity with injection-molded plastics, metal-stamped components, and precision manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting product validation, testing, and manufacturing launch.
- Strong engineering problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Must currently reside in Michigan and be available to work onsite in the Greater Detroit area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Direct experience designing automotive electrical connectors, connector housings, or terminals.
- Knowledge of automotive wire harness connections, sealing systems, and retention mechanisms.
- Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, FEA, APQP, or PPAP.
- Familiarity with engineering thermoplastics such as PBT, LCP, PPS, and PA66.
- Experience with high-voltage, high-current, or signal connector products.
- Background in automotive electrical/electronic component manufacturing.
