Senior Level Structural Project Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level structural project engineer job?
Employers hiring at the senior level look for engineers who have owned structural design from concept through construction documents, not just contributed to a team. A strong portfolio of completed projects, proficiency in analysis software like ETABS, SAP2000, or RISA, and demonstrated experience coordinating with architects and contractors all signal readiness. Leadership on multi-discipline projects and any PE licensure give candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire senior level structural project engineers?
Companies hiring senior level structural project engineers right now include KPFF Consulting Engineers, WALTER P MOORE, and Lochmueller, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of large multidiscipline engineering firms, specialized structural consultancies, general contractors with in-house engineering teams, and public agencies managing major infrastructure programs.
Are there remote senior level structural project engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles involve some site coordination or client-facing work that limits fully remote arrangements. About 36% of senior level structural project engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid setups being the most common at this level. Fully remote positions tend to be concentrated in roles focused on analysis, modeling, and documentation rather than construction administration.
What makes a structural project engineer role senior level?
Senior level structural project engineer roles are defined by ownership rather than contribution. Engineers at this stage lead the structural scope on projects, make independent design decisions, review and sign off on the work of junior and mid-level staff, and serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients and project managers. The expectation is deep expertise in at least one structural discipline and the ability to manage competing project demands without close supervision.
Which industries hire the most senior level structural project engineers?
Senior level structural project engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they consistently deliver capital-intensive projects, complex infrastructure programs, and large-scale developments that require experienced engineers who can own technical scope and manage risk from start to finish.
