What You Can Expect
We are seeking a senior I or II Servicing Systems Engineer to ensure our orthopedic surgical robotic systems are designed for serviceability, reliability, and exceptional customer experience. This role integrates Design for Serviceability (DfS) principles into robotic platforms, develops field service workflows, and enables rapid, safe interventions in high-stakes surgical environments. You will collaborate with engineering, Quality, Regulatory, and Field Service teams to deliver systems that minimize downtime, maximize surgical uptime, and meet stringent compliance standards.
By joining this team you will be taking part in cutting edge technology used to improve patient outcomes and relieve pain for patients across the globe.
How You'll Create Impact
Key Responsibilities
Design for Serviceability (DfS) in Surgical Robotics
- Define and enforce DfS requirements for robotic systems: modular assemblies, quick-connect cabling, sterile field considerations, and tool-free access for critical components.
- Collaborate with robotics engineers to design service-friendly architectures (e.g., swappable joint modules, sensor calibration ports, embedded diagnostics).
- Conduct/update serviceability FMEAs and validate service life cycle.
- Develop/update service BOMs, preventive maintenance schedules, and calibration protocols aligned with orthopedic surgical use cases.
- Specify and validate new/updated built-in diagnostics, and telemetry.
- Support and execute segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development/V&V/launch process.
- Plan and execute verification protocols.
Field Service Workflow
- Design service workflows that minimize disruption.
- Service readiness for new robotic applications/platforms prior to commercial launch.
- Collaborate with engineering in defining installation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for robotic arms, navigation systems, and imaging integrations.
- Develop digital troubleshooting guides, assisted repair flows, and remote support capabilities for urgent intraoperative issues.
Customer Experience
- Capture Voice of Field Service Engineer and support agents to inform service design—prioritizing speed, clarity, and confidence.
- Collaborate with Training to create competency-based learning paths for technicians servicing robotic systems in OR environments.
Regulatory, Reliability & Compliance
- Ensure all service processes meet FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and IEC 60601 standards for medical electrical equipment.
- Support post-market surveillance and feed reliability insights into product and service roadmaps.
Ownership, Accountability & mentorship
- Takes end-to-end ownership of projects (from design to deployment)
- Works with minimal supervision
- Anticipates risks and proactively addresses them
- Delivers consistently and reliably
- Mentors junior and mid-level engineers
What Makes You Stand Out
- Systems Thinking & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Customer Empathy in High-Stakes Environments
- Customer Service Oriented
- Regulatory Compliance & Documentation Excellence
- Robotics Serviceability & Diagnostic Design
- Change Management & Training Enablement
Your Background
Required
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years in service engineering or field service for complex electromechanical systems (preferably surgical robotics or medical devices).
- Familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, and IEC standards.
- Experience with DfS, DHF, and FMEA.
- Strong technical writing skills for service manuals.
- Project management experience.
- Ability to communicate technically with team members.
- Experience in continuous improvement culture, skill sets, and tools to enhance quality and operational excellence.
- Experience with the proper use of common inspection tools, test equipment, and visual standards.
Preferred
- Lean Six Sigma or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
- Deep knowledge of industry practices. Practical knowledge related to the products/components that the position will support, e.g., electromechanical product components and assembly processes.

Senior Level Service Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level service engineer job?
Employers hiring at the senior level look for engineers who have owned outcomes end-to-end, not just executed tasks. Highlight instances where you diagnosed and resolved systemic issues, led cross-functional projects, or mentored junior engineers. Strong candidates demonstrate technical depth in relevant systems, a history of reducing downtime or improving service quality, and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and customers.
Which companies hire senior level service engineers?
Companies hiring senior level service engineers right now include Siemens, Lam Research, and Johnson Controls, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level tends to concentrate among large equipment manufacturers, industrial technology firms, and enterprise technology providers that depend on specialized field and systems expertise to maintain high-value customer relationships.
Are there remote senior level service engineer jobs?
Yes, though many roles at this level still require on-site presence given the hands-on nature of service engineering. About 26% of senior level service engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements being most common for roles that involve occasional customer site visits or lab access alongside regular remote work.
What makes a service engineer role senior level?
Senior level service engineer roles are defined by ownership, scope, and influence. Where mid-level engineers resolve assigned issues, senior engineers diagnose systemic problems, define resolution strategies, and set standards others follow. Expect to lead technical escalations, contribute to product feedback loops, mentor junior team members, and serve as a primary technical point of contact for key customers or accounts.
Which industries hire the most senior level service engineers?
Senior Level service engineer roles concentrate in Manufacturing, Technology & Software, and Electronics & Hardware, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors rely heavily on complex installed equipment, mission-critical systems, or high-value customer contracts that require engineers with the experience and authority to resolve issues independently and maintain long-term client relationships.
